Stretched of the timing chain given a backfire condition is more likely over a timing chain that has jumped a tooth or two.TDC on number one checking where the dizzy is pointing is a easy check to see if that is the reason for the issue.Getting this thread back on track.Suffice to say we prefer to do the education of a knowing or unknowing customer ourselfs. So TDC on number one compression stroke with the harmonic balancer at 0 timing mark.Pull the spark plug putting your finger over the hole to help determine the compression stroke.A sure way to find that is to pull that side valve cover and watch the rocker arms. The null side of the cam with both intake and exhaust rockers closed at 0 is TDC compression stroke.Your hearing it backfire in the exhaust because the timing is retarded because of the chain.
