Engine removal on 73 Winnebago Brave 22'?

Just bought it so I could get the 440 and tranny out for my Ram.

Since the motor sits between the seats... how the heck do you get it out? Do I have to remove the entire front end?

Pull engine up through the hole in the floor.

I'm unsure how I'd do that! I thought you disconnected it through the hole and came out the front but I still don't really see a means of getting the hoist in there.

IF you can't remove enough of the front end to access and remove the engine, you will have to take it from inside the MH, then out thru the windshield area - the other usual option, is remove front axle and drop engine out the bottom...

I've done it three times! You use the hoist that breaks down to get it inside of the motorhome. Set it up pull the engine. I use 3/4 plywood on the floor as a base, makes rolling the hoist ez. Walk the engine to the side door. Break the hoist down, put it outside, set it back up and pull the engine out of the door. Trans will almost fall out, block it up. Some people put them out the side window. See below:

wow I figured the door opening was to small. I was wondering the same thing in case I need to remove my engine for any reason some day.

AAron07. I was curious since you are basically parting out are you selling any of the other items IE stover refridge cabinets etc.?? I have a 1971 Brave D-20 and I need alot of items in order to restore it.

It's a tight fit, but it will come out. Some engines the exhaust manifolds have to come off, not a big problem. If your door is still too narrow, it will go out of the side window and on to a high work table.

I believe the doorway is 25" across so it should fit. If it doesn't I'll just have to make the doorway wider

And yes, I am parting it and would much rather see the parts go to use rather than the crusher. If anyone needs parts please send me a PM.

I went through it all today and cleaned it up. Everything works... all the lights, the roof AC blows cold, the microwave, stove, etc. Only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to fire the refrigerator as it's gas and electric.

I could always take it down to just block it would be alot lighter to manipulate it to where ya want it that way also.

My Dodge repair books show the engine comes out thru the front or out the bottom, your choice. The grills in front come off with a part between the upper and lower grills comming off. I know this since I have removed and replaced the radiator. Removing the carb/intake manifold and attaching the lifting arm close to the top of the engine is shown in a picture.
Removing out the bottom needs to be done on a lift and removing the front axle.
This is shown in the books too. Your results may vary............
