Entry Step, Ideas needed

Here is a few pics of our entry step, we want to make it spectacular and we just removed the carpeting and the 10 thousand staples it was held down with.
We will be covering the floor above it with a teak resilient flooring from HD.
I know I want put a good piece of carpet to step on for the floor but don't have a clue what to do about the walls, the back wall is a hinged door that flips up with a small storage compartment behind it.

I'd think carpet may still be an option for the sides.

I can't say my wife would like it, but I'd consider some kind of diamond plate for the sides. I've even seen rubber material with a diamond plate pattern that might look good glued on and bordered with wood or metal trim strips.

We used art glass mosaic tiles (the 1" square on webbing type) on the sides, with carpeting on the steps.

We replaced all the carpet in the MH with vinyl laminate flooring, but the carpet on the steps is to catch dirt and sand before it gets tracked in.

Its easy to replace that small amount of carpet when it get dirty- easier than shampooing it!.

That looks really nice, I have only the one step up, I was thinking to use glass tiles on the sides and a dark thick easily removable carpet on the tread perhaps held in place with velcro, it's the riser I am having issues figuring out becuase it has a storage compartment behind it, any thoughts??
Does anyone elso have pictures of a cool entry?

I only have two ideas. One would be carpet again. It would cover the hinge. The other would be to convert that hinged door into a drawer if the space behind it would allow. That may give you more options to cover it.

...maybe you could convert the hinged door into a sliding panel? It'd slide up and out of side tracks to open and down into the tracks to close. That'd eliminate the hinge and also give you more options for covering it.
