I found out about the Vent the hard way. I had the same problem that you mentioned and forced the issue one day. I the process I blew the vent line off it's fitting at the tank and I can't get at it to reinstall it. Now it squirts water for a while after filling it. My vent hole is between the two fill fittings with a plug attached to the tether for the cap.
