Genset Carburetor

I have an '89 Winnie Chieftain. The Genset in it is an Onan Emerald 3. I can get it to start fine, and it will idle well . I always start it with both the breakers in the "off" position. When I load it up with one breaker, the governer on the genset starts "hunting". I can adjust the fuel/air mixture, and it will start running smoothly. When I load the other breaker, I have to go through the process again, and it will again begin to run smoothly. It will run well under load like this for varying lengths of time, but it will eventually start to "hunt" again, or it may just completely shut down, like it ran out of fuel. If I unload it, it will usually start up ok, and the process starts over.
My question is, has anyone had great success with installing a carburetor kit in this unit, or would I do better just completely replacing the carburetor?

I would open it up and clean it.

I strip 14 gauge electric wire and use the strands like a wire brush, up into the main jet passage and emulsion tube.

While the bowl is off, turn the carb over and see if the float sits level, it should. Then try to blow into the gas line fitting in that position. It should be impossible with your mouth. Lift the float and it should be easy to blow thru. Do the same to the gas filter, it too should be easy to blow thru.

Before you condem the carb, make sure the fuel delivery is up to par. A test would be to run it until it dies and then see if the carb bowl is low or empty. It should be full, if the fuel system is good.
