No toll roads are good with me also, there's good roads thru Vermont and New Hampshire like Lloyd said, up thru Bennington, vt.

I've traveled the I90 route so many times.
I think RT 202 is a good (but slower)alternative. ....plus it comes very close to HERE !
You have to go through some small towns though...not that that's a bad thing.
A trip through VT and NH is a good idea also but like here could take up a LOT of time seeing the sights !!!

Good Morning, thanks Popeye for the info, looking at my truckers atlas, 202 is an approved road and no low bridges. From here it might be better to take rt 9 out of Bennington,vt.thru New Hampshire and connect to 202, we have been looking at maybe taking a quick trip up that way and maybe looking at a campground, if we don't run out of time

Looking at the websites of the campgrounds Poland Spring and Lake Permaquid looks promising, Bailey's looks like it might be very expensive? If I read it right. And Wolfes Neck looks like the sites are too small, maybe I missed something, it has happened maybe once or twice before, LOL

Poland, Permaquid and Baileys all seem to be about the same. Wolfes does not have 50 amp.
Any of the first three are fine with us. Caveat being we are all together. Could not be much better than Beaver Lake but if we can - wow.
Looks like there is the possibility of a sizeable convoy to the campground. Exciting

What "truckers atlas" do you use? I understand "no low bridges" but need to learn which roads are in the category of "approved road" and why.
I know I can buy an RV GPS, but I have read that they are not as reliable as the printed maps. Most every post I have read about trip planning includes using both the printed maps and a GPS. I have a TomTom car GPS, but I know that will not work for bridges, tunnels, underpasses, etc.
Still learning...

Hi Gordon, kinda what we thought, trying to get something together and hope to take a trip up there this fall. Hi CW, I have a Rand McNally 2018 in the state maps the roads are colored different to tell what roads are able to be driven on with trucks, if a semi is able then a RV can too. I also use a Garmin RV 770 but when I'm traveling I always check the GPS with the atlas, (oh the atlas tells the low bridges too) what is nice with yhe GPS is it will look for fuel, rest areas and rv campsites among other things. I also use several phone apps too, never have enough info.

Yup Rt 9 leads to 202.
When you get to Gray Me. take Rt.26 to Poland Spring iff'n ya pick that one.
I workamped at a place in Arlington Vt. back in summer '08 then after the 4th to Bailey's (my last time on the 9+202 route) just before the rig burned at jct of 87 and 84 in Newburg on my fall escape to Mississippi Yogiland
I still took I90 and 495 to 95 + 295 north most of the time if I didn't have the luxury of the extra time . Used the same routing by going south on I87 in NY , then I84 to Scranton , I81 to I40............Nashville !

Interstates and most state roads will be OK. Local roads are more likely to have low or narrow issues.
Scenic roads can be a guessing game as well.
Generally low will be marked well before hand on highways. Always a game in town as the rules may not be the same.
So far in our travels we have only encountered one bridge that was too low. Was not on our route, warning signs were out with an alternate route if going that way, just saw it as we passed by - we would not have gone under. It was under a railroad in town. We traveled the coast highway (Hwy 1) and made it all the way. Couple times drove down the center of the road. Not sure if we had to but the arch was not clearly marked where the height was. Under the center was the tallest.
We have a Rand McNally in the coach. Also have a Garmin Zumo that we use as a back up but it is mainly for the bike.
We have the Rand McNally 2019 truckers. All safe routes are highlighted. We are at 13.5 so try to stay with main routes. I can tell you stories about when we have used maps.

Correction my atlas is a 2019 too. Times two on what Gordon said, the atlas is nice because sometimes there are restrictions at the local level for some crazy reasons that only the the local government can explain.

Hello M&G,
I started doing some calling for M&G 2019 ands here is what I have so far.
Poland Spring CG Cannot get us together at all!
Sebago CG No answer
Old Orchard Left a message
Bailey's Camping Resort $84 a night
All of these were a NO for one reason or another. Some of these CG's are very small and only have 30 amp or no pull through. One literally has no sewer on sites but has a honey wagon that comes around. Others were over $60. a night
Range Pond
Freeport KOA
Augusta KOA
Wolf's Creek
Seacoast RV Resort
Powder Horn
Red Apple
Hemlock's
Kokatasi
Blueberry
Lakeside Pines
Empire
Two Lakes $49 a night. Have not called them yet. $311. a week.
Do we continue looking around here or Popeye, do you have any other ideas?
Lynne

Hi Lynne, I have run into the same problem, it seems that it is VERY tourist oriented and alot of the campgrounds are conducive to groups
