Good Morning Everyone: (from the corner!)
Membership in the Corner Coffee Club is open to everyone. Membership is FREE! Plans are afoot to install a fire place/pit for the temperature challenged. This brings on the possibility of wiener roasts, s'mores and camp iron pies. "Going to have to drag a picnic table over for all of the treats."
We are just below freezing with predicted highs just above. Blizzard south of us so may postpone departure for a day. They are talking about white outs and icy roads. Two things I like to avoid!
BAP/Jeff - Don't worry. The fix is in. Prayers have prepped the Surgeon for a successful outcome. Prayers for you for a positive attitude, successful surgery, quick recovery and pain free future.
Family is coming over today for Thanksgiving. Janet has planned and will execute a grand dinner. Turkey is just about ready to go in. I can hear Janet rolling out the pie dough for pumpkin pie. Sides will be roasted vegetables from our garden. We have much to be thankful for with family and friends. Janet and I are pleased to count all of you as our friends. Wish you could all be here to celebrate with us.
Have a great day everyone.

Jeff,
I had a prostatectomy back in late 2008 because of cancer. Don't worry about the surgery, the only thing I remember about my surgery was shouting "TALLY-HO!!!" as they wheeled me off to surgery in the gurney. The only thing after surgery that was really unpleasant was the catheter I had in me for a week while I healed. That was miserable, but I doubt if you'll have that to worry over.
Steve
PS I still don't know what possessed me to shout tally-ho...

Steve;
Sometimes the strangest things come out of our mouths. I would like to think it is because we have had a "relaxer" before we go in.
Unfortunately it happens all to often before the "relaxer" is administered. Sometimes I am not even near a medical facility.

Good afternoon, all!
We got in late last night and after dark. Did drive around the property a bit to see what would show in the headlights. Just could not wait until daylight.
Metal building is fine. Big trailer and Jeep appear to be fine. House has some minor wind damage: shingles off, soffet damaged, flashing torn off. (Time to call the property manager. It's their problem, not mine.) Huge tree came down; fell across fence onto neighbor's backyard. Only property damage is to an old 4' high chainlink fence. (Again, property manager issue.)
Small cargo trailer had a large branch of a tree leaning on the top at the right rear corner. It was too heavy to move, so I cut away lots of smaller branches. Then two neighbors helped with more trimming and simply lifting it up and off. Minor dents in the curved aluminum roof. I just need to seal about an inch of seam between the top and the endcap so it does not leak. Tube of Dicor is in the shop waiting.
DW took me aside to thank me for "protecting her" through all of this. I told her it was in the "fine print" and I had to do it anyways! Ouch! She didn't like that response.
After the trailer extraction, I spent some time on the neighbor's cleanup. In addition to the large tree from our backyard in his backyard, he lost a large tree in his front yard. Fortunately it missed his house completely. The tree is now a large pile of branches to burn and firewood to be split.
We did lose power for 21 hours, so what food was left in the fridge is now trash. We took a lot of the perishables with us in a cooler for our "trip" out of harm's way, but not everything. Total dollar loss was less than the $100 deductible for an ER visit for food poisoning. We will replace the food.
We did think that having an RV as an "escape pod" would have been nice this past week. Fortunately we have relatives that were not in the direct path of the storm and have an extra bedroom.
OK, that should be the end of that for us. Now, I've got to get back to paying work.
Bap, I believe surgery is tomorrow? Thoughts and prayers continuing.
You guys in the corner... Do you bring lekvar kolache? I haven't heard anyone use the word "kolache" in years. My Mom and Grandmother used to make them. Also had a great bakery in NJ I used to visit sometimes in the morning to get them still warm from the oven.
Steve, Great luck with the Golden. I hope it works out. Enjoy your trip.
Popeye, Nope. You are not crazy. You just operate on a different wave-length (and in a time dimension as well?) I have learned to appreciate those who think differently than me. When I was younger it just did not make sense that other folks did not see things the same why I did. I have learned.
Lynne, Glad WOT was good. You obviously love helping folks. Thanks!
Terry, Hope your MIL is ok, considering. (I know, I should have posted in the other thread and boosted the post count!) Hope she can recover well. It's hard getting old. And, it's harder watching others get old as well. But, God knows what He is doing. We just do our best to do our part.
Another non-coffee drinker here. Yes, I have tried it. Many, many years ago I used to drink a little with lots of sugar and milk. Then, my future father-in-law commented that the way I made coffee was like drinking "dishwater." I don't think I touched a cup since. I even survived many years of the Navy after that without drinking coffee. I do like hot chocolate on occasion though.
So, how to get a caffeine fix? One example: During grad school, about 10-15 minutes before each exam (usually a 75 minute written test), I would have a can of Diet Coke and a Snickers bar. We were allowed to bring drinks into the room so I would finish the coke during the exam. I called them "legal drugs." Well, chocolate, caffeine, sugar (candy bar), peanuts (a bit of protein). It must have worked since my grades were fine.
Well, DW just returned from the grocery story. Let's go see what we have to eat for lunch!
Everyone, have a great day.

Bap,
Wishing you the best from our house to yours.
Charles,
Glad that you made it through the storm with little damage, a few dollars lost is nothing compared to what it could have been if the Hurricanes path was about 25 miles west of what it was.
MK,
Looks like you had a good time with your GS.
Survived Hollywood Studios, GS is now officially a Jedi Knight. Had a really good time, we were there for about 7 hours. We are going out for dinner tonight, then Rita and I are going grocery shopping for Wednesday evening, which is pool day, and then dinner in. Since Daughter bought all the tickets and room, we told them we would cover the transportation to and from the airport and to each of the attractions and most of the food, should even out. Tomorrow is Sea World.
Have a great day all,
Frank
