i am the proud owner of a 1987 ford midas motorhome. the best part of it, is that it was given to me. unfortnally i dont know anything about it. it needs to have the water replumbed and most of the eletrical redone. if there is anyone out there who can help me fix this stuff i would apperatate it.

Pete, welcome to iRV2. I guess the previous owner did not leave you any manuals?

You can get manuals for the appliance on line most of the time. If not, post a list on Model numbers for the items and we can see what we can did up.

Do you know that you have a fresh water tank as well as a city water hook up. You also have two waste tanks, one is gray and the other is black. You also have a 120 volt power system as well as a 12 Volt DC battery power system and a 120 VAC to 12 VDC converter. Last you have a propane system to provide fuel to the water heater, furnace and the stove.

Just start asking questions and we'll try to help.

thanks all. My wife and i are from Brohman, MI. To TXiceman i got nothing when i got my MH. in fact all i really got was a headach lol. it was basically was a shell. the previous owner tryed to do some upgrades and totally botched it. its a 1978 Ford midas 23'. the wireing was/is a mess as well as the plumbing. there was no water pump, the converter was wired all kinda crazy. but like i said it was free. the powertrain in it is perfect, the motor has 56,149 miles on it. the brakes were froze up, but thats taken care of now. when done its gonna be top notch. my wife and i are thinking of becoming full timers. once again thanks all. - Pete

So, let me get this straight.... you've got a motorhome with no appliances, no fixtures, no cabinets, etc... etc?

If it is pretty well stripped out, it might be easier and more cost effective to just rip out the rest and start over and do it the way you want.

I got an old houseboat one time that sounds a lot like your m/h. when i got it redone it really suited me just fine. only problem it wouldn't roll down the interstate- just around the bend.

ya its pretty much gutted. the furnace and fridge and fridge are there, as well as a converter thats kinda hooked up. i do plan on compleatly re doing it all. as it would be just my wife, dog, and myself i really dont need something that sleeps 5. it had bunk beds, the bed over the cab and the dinette that converted into a bed. we really dont need all that. i have been looking for the plumbing and wiring diagrams for it ( or at least close to what i have ) without much luck.
