How is the length of an RV Measured
I bought what I thought was a 1991 28 ft Silver Eagle, we measured it from Bumper to Bumper and it is almost 32 feet long
I saw an ad for an identical 1992 model and it was advertised as a 32 footer
Do all manufactures use the same method of measuring or is whatever they want to call it?

The advertised length seems to be determined by the advertising department.
There is no standard or uniformity.

My thoughts also..... either that or my tape measure is malfunctioning.

Mine is an Xplorer 228 which is the measurment in inches, which translates to 19ft. But I have a feeling that may not count the front and rear bumpers. But I haven't measured it to see.
The 1967 Shasta Astroflyte I had was supposed to be 17.5ft but as far as I could tell, that included the tongue and rear bumper.

Our DSDP is listed as 40' but actually measures 40'-11".
My parents had a '58 Kencraft TT, it was called 18'-2", to get that you had to measure from the front of the tongue to the rear of the taillights, which stuck out beyond the bumper due to the body shape.
No standard exists that I know of.

Look at the bright side you got more RV than you thought, you upgraded in size and didn't even know it. Jim

This question comes up a couple of times a year. My 40 footer, measures 41.5 feet when measured from the very back cap to the very nose cap. I contaced the mfgr when I first bought it and they gave me something about it being measured without the front cap on. Funny thing is the next years model was listed as a 42 footer. I asked a CHP California Highway Patrol officer the other day the question and he said he pulls his tape out and measures like I did. He then suddenly had to go on a call as I pressed him for more details or specific codes to look up. In Kalifornia over 40 feet and you are supposed to have a non-commercial class B license. It took the local DMV two days just to come up with the written exams. But I don't want to misdirect the thread. This one about measuring the length would sure be nice to get some specific written codes.

Wouldn't they use a tape measure?

I've wonder the same thing as the OP. Where did Everest come up with '305T' as my trailer's model number? And it's length is advertised as 35' 2".
Boat's are the same way. My Chaparral 236SSI is 24' 2". Go figure.

It is common for the body length to be used in the model number - SV264 - 26 feet.
Overall, our TT is 29 feet 8 inches.
That's not a bumper to bumper measurement. It is bumper to ball center as the TT does not have a front bumper...

When mine gets washed I am charged by the foot, seems to shrink sometimes. Long time friend that is a Realtor always said "You buy a pond and sell a lake". I assume this could be true in MHs.

Maybe RV's should be sold by the pound rather than the foot.

Our 5er is a 349 model. I measured it on the inside and the inside floor length is.....
34 feet 9 inches, inside rear wall to inside front closet wall. Of course the overall length is 37 feet 10 inches.
