Leveling system

I have a 1993 Ambassador with hydraulic leveling jacks and need some help. While out camping a few weeks ago we ran into some problems with the hydraulic jacks. I had the jacks extended and put them up fine. Went down the road and when we parked we tried to put them down with no luck. I checked the reservoir and it was a little low so I added fluid and tried again with no luck. I noticed a smell like something burning but it did not last long and al the lights on the panel looked fine. I pulled the pump off and removed the 3 pole starter relay and took it to camper world where they checked it and said it was bad. Sold me a 4 pole relay which I installed and when I went to check the jacks they initiallly started to work but I had a leak from one of the hoses and stopped. After tightening the line I tried to lower the jacks and again it would not work. I can hear the solenoid for the jack itself engaging but the pump itself does not run. Can someone tell me if the 4 pole can be used in place of the 3 pole solenoid? I think my jack system is a Stetson system? but I am not sure and do not have a manual for it since I bought the RV used. ( There was a flyer for a Stetson leveling system in the paperwork we did find for the RV so that is why I think it is a Stetson ). Also wondered if it is possible to have too much fluid in the system since it seems that the pump ran with a loose line but stopped working after I tightend it up.

Regarding the relay, it's nearly impossible to say if the 4 pole you bought will work. Though very similar in layout/design, there are quite a few possible combinations for them? The fact it "started" to work would make me thing it's ok, but that's no guarantee.

Don't forget that for the motor to work it needs power AND a good ground?

What's going on could be checked by checking for voltage at the pump motor while somebody holds the switch. If you have voltage, the relay is likely OK and there's an issue with the pump motor (usually repairable). If you do not have voltage, the problem may lie with the realy - or the switch that supposed to be turning the relay on.
