The tree and presents has been a nightmare. Yesterday CIL and myself tested about forty out of a fifty bulb set, bulbs bad, all shorted out. We tested replacements and installed them, powered up, all bulbs flashed and shorted out. All of those particular bulbs bare out of stock. So this morning I will replace two strings of those lights with new sets. That's about three hundred ty raps removed and replaced. Oh fun.

One of the products at Harbor Freight that do not suck is zip ties.
While leds are more expensive. Most do not shut down the whole set when one goes out. Going to look great when all the kinks are out.

Ron I got the tree up tonight. This morning I started off this morning with removing 150 lights, three strings, that we couldn't get to stay lit. 300 plus ty raps for those counting. 150 new lights installed, another 300 plus ty raps done today. The plan tomorrow is to hang some colored lights swagged across the tree, lights on the lights.

For those who don't know Ron is the first one to rave about induction burners to us. Glenda bought one, dad was so impressed that he bought one, yeah, 91 and he Amazons. Tonight they paired up for spaghetti dinner.

The new building materials came in yesterday. The old building wasn't up to snuff.

Actually it's been a nightmare to locate and purchase the materials i wanted. I'm probably paying at least a $500.00 premium over what it would cost me in Texas. I'm building a custom 12' X 16' all steel building.

Christmas Eve eve and it was quite a day. Yesterday we knocked down the old building. This morning we loaded it up and took it to the landfill. On the way home from the landfill we stopped at the swap meet and picked up a digging bar for $15.00. Then it was Lowes for some Sacrete.

The reason for the digging bar was a couple of test pokes with the posthole diggers suggested the ground was harder than a bad girl's heart. One of the tricks in the fence man's tool box is using water when digging in sandy soil to help hold the sides up when digging the hole. Water also softens the ground. We didn't need the digging bar. But it is one of those things you would rather have and not need than need and not have.

The four corner posts are set. Two more posts to set, middle of the 16' sides and then we can start framing the walls. I want the building done so we can start doing some blacksmithing.

Merry Christmas Harvey, Glenda, Dad and Dog.
Looks like you have some large projects to keep you busy into the new year.

Ron this will bring back some memories for you. We had a wonderful Holiday and hope you and Betty did too.

I'm having to modify not only the components but the design because we're using 20 ga steel studs versus 14 ga steel C purlins. It's not as bad as using toothpicks instead of popsicle sticks for a project, but close.

It is coming along. The goal is to have the sheet metal on by next year.

Harvey,
It looks like you are getting there, but need to hurry if you are going to make the new year.

I thought those steel studs where only good for non load bearing walls, but I guess you don't have to worry about snow load. How's the bicycle.......

You were debating if you should haul the metal down from TX. Looking more and more like you should have regardless what it cost.

Someone once told me that if wood were a "new" material today, and the "manufacturer" were trying to get it accepted as a revolutionary building material, it would never be made code due to the variations in "production" and unexpected "flaws" in the final material!

Go ahead and make your modifications for the thinner ga metal, if it's like anything I build, it will still end up being MUCH stronger than a comparable "engineered" or wood structure.

Like if I think I need a design strength of say . . 5 whatevers, I tend to build to 10 or more, just to be SURE!

With new computer modeling, design engineers will KNOW that a product only needs to be a "5", so they will design to a say 5.2 to build in a slight safety margin . . .Minimal "safety factors" are a false savings in material and labor IMHO. Personally I like the overkill method!

I build so that later on people who have to take down, or move stuff I make will HATE me!

Can't wait to see the end result!
