Today was the day when they would do the MRI on the shoulder, nothing but a thing, just a stair tread on the trail to good shoulder land.
First there was the X ray I insisted upon having of my eyes because I am a weldor/fabricator. There are horror stories out there about pieces of metal migrating to the back of the eye and then coming out wrecking havoc during an MRI.
Tech, “this is a good idea since you were a weldor.”
Me, “have you ever seen what happens when there is a piece of steel in the skull during an MRI?” I had one in an MRI some years ago, weird looking, looked I was a zombie with this black hole above my eye.”
After the X ray I was sent back to the waiting room. Then the tech came in and sat down beside me later. “Not today. That piece of steel is still there and we can’t take a chance. I looked at the chart of your 2013 MRI with the steel and we can’t believe they went ahead and did it after knowing it was there.”
So I have a 7mm piece of steel in my hairline that isn’t in the bone and it has to be taken out before the MRI. We went to my regular doc, he don’t do that and doesn’t know who to recommend removing it. The surgeon’s team seem to be unsure what to do. I do have one out that might work. I asked the surgeon’s team to see if the hospital tech that did the 2013 would do it.
If not it looks like next week I will have to find a dermatologist on my own to do a cut, jerk, and sew. I really do want the MRI before we go into the shoulder.
It was funny trying to convince the tech into doing the MRI because we’re sure it won’t move, didn’t before, shouldn’t now. “We have a different brand, they used Phillips, we have a Siemens. And our magnets might be more powerful than theirs. We can’t believe they did it after knowing you had it in there.”

Hey Harvey,
With all the talents you possess, I'd think you could remove it yourself. Just find a really strong magnet, pour some rot gut whiskey over your pocket knife and go digging. I hear super glue is a good substitute for stitches.

Life with Jane
I needed a MRI last August. Went to my doctors hospital for it. Because I had a eye injury 50 years ago from a grinder. They wanted to do a X-ray first. Thought about it for couple of minutes. Asked for my paper work back. Went back to hospital where I had the MRI done the year before. Was a good thing. Because they were able to compare the 2 years MRI to see if any changes. But I can see where having a piece of metal near the machine can cause a problem.
I like OK ‘s suggestion. You can do it. [emoji854]

The surgeon explained that the supraspinatus is completely torn. The CT scan alternative isn’t as definitive as the MRI but he wanted to schedule surgery.
A week ago I would have jumped on the earliest date available. But since we are seriously looking at selling the house and moving I need a couple of months to get that done before surgery. We’re looking June-ish so that I can recover in the mountains of Arizona late summer.

Shoulder surgery is out of the question for awhile. We found a piece of property sixty miles due north of us that we really like. It’s an acre and a half, big, but not too big. We got to talk to the owner yesterday after over a week trying to get the real estate agent to return calls, texts, etc.
And this week we got started on preparing our house for selling. The market is hot, last three comps sold over asking and in less than five days so we want to take advantage of that. But we have 26 years of stuff to surgically remove for the move. It’s going to be interesting.
Real estate agent told me the owner in Dennison was an old guy, late seventies, and left me with the impression of being a character with health issues. Turns out he is a year older than me and three years younger than my wife. But he does have health issues, heart needs some work. We hit it off pretty good, will make the offer in the next couple of days.
Property has a single wide that has to go away and a detached garage apt that will be remodeled by/for us. It has rural water meter, two septic tanks, 200’ deep working well, and three electric meters. And a huge plus for us, sandy soil, after thirty plus years on black gumbo clay we want sandy soil.
We’re looking at building a 40’ X 60’ portel aka RV barndaminium. It will have the apartment, enclosed RV port, and workshop. The property is narrow and long so there’s room for adding RV portels later on to rent out if we’re so inclined. The hiccup right now is making big stuff happen in two locations in a limited time period. We’ll be living in Jane while building the new place.
The good thing is we’re excited. I was getting ready to sell more tools and now we’re not doing that, I might need them, concrete mixer, portable welder etc. I always admired my grandpa for moving to the country and building a home when he was about sixty five. Who would have thunk I would get the same itch a couple of months shy of seventy.

It is the hammer arm. But swinging the hammer isn’t an issue with the injury. The problem is the lack of strength and pain involved in lifting the arm out sideways or above the shoulder. The pain is manageable most of the time, then tylenol works when it isn’t.

We were hoping for a close on the new place next Friday. But that looks like it won’t happen now. Originally we were going to let their agent handle it all. But after the third time he didn’t do something he said he was going to do I got the agent who’s handling our house sale involved. I just feel better having someone in there covering my interests when things might not be what they seem. No issues with the property or the owner, just a squirrelly agent.
I would appreciate any good advice dealing with poison ivy/oak. I can roll in it without being bothered. Best thing about me, not the same story. It kicks her butt. The property has a ton of it.
But the property has three electric meters, one water meter, 13 gpm 200’ well, and two septic systems. There’s good grass with some weeds. But with regular mowing the weeds will go away and the grass will thrive. Concord grapes dominate the existing fence line and there’s a pear tree that produces huge delicious fruit that has to be picked or the coons will strip it according to the owner.
One of the kids asked how we were going to handle living in Jane until the apt is finished. Been there, done that, in Yuma for three and a half months. I’m sure Jane would be upset if she wasn’t part of the fun.

I have the same issue with poison oak. I have seven acres and I think half is covered with it. It grows a couple different ways on my property. Some places its like a bush (close together) and I put a cable around it and attached it to my quad and cinched it tight and cut it off with my small chain saw then was able to pull it to a pile. That way I didn't have to touch it.
The other way it grows is small stalks growing out of the ground the size of my small finger and the saw would cut it. I'm thinking about buying the attachment that goes on my Stihl weed eater that will take a circular saw blade and try that.
