I’m glad you found the journey interesting Kate. It was the late nineties when I got online and picked “life is good” for our avatar. A lot has changed, life being good hasn’t been one of the changes.

It looks like the house is a done deal. We should be closing next week. That means the money will be available for a lot of the stuff we’re wanting to do before we head to Yuma. Originally we were hoping to be leaving for Yuma around early November. Now it looks like end of November to early December.

I picked up an Extended Stay propane hose set up for the coach and haven’t needed it yet. All we’re using the propane for in the coach is water heater and it’s been really efficient so far.

I’ve mixed about ten and a third yards of concrete so far in the big mixer. It looks like another five or six yards for the floor of the welding/blacksmith shop that is attached to the container. Most of the floor is 6 inches thick which is almost twice the thickness I would have if I had regular crews doing the work. Today was a five mixer day and it wasn’t as near as hard on me as five mixer days were a couple of weeks ago. Also since the work has turned physical on the place I’ve added one new belt hole and am getting ready to punch another. That gives me three holes in the old belt in the last two months.

This evening I went to Home Depot for a pallet of Portland Cement. I’ve already used 31 bags and can see at least 35 more so I figure go for the pallet load and have it on hand.

For those wondering why I’m doing the concrete the hard way, save about two thirds over having it done by a contractor and more importantly, I have total control from the forming to the finishing.

I’m losing weight, six pounds since last April. Dozer the dawg has lost five in the last year, looking more like a dachshund and less like a seal. And Glenda has also lost five pounds since last April. We’re not skin and bones yet but we’re not so roundy round either.

Lots of good progress. Hoping the sale of old house goes thru next week as planned. And hoping to see y'all in Yuma. Did you notice that this was your 1000th post.

I told the trucker that their sand/gravel (premix) didn’t have enough elasticity. When he gave me that WTH look I told him that it didn’t stretch very far.

Harvey, if you lose too much weight, I can send you about 20 lbs I can easily spare! I don't care if you lose that too!

As long as it isn’t the ugly twenty, I’ve got enough of that all on my own.

This was taken last night after a 7 1/2 mixer load day. It beat the killer six load days by 1 1/2 mixer loads. Two ten yard dump truck loads and this is all we have left.

Today remnants of Wilma came calling here in North Texas. It started raining about noon so all I got done was some forming up and general catch up after a couple of days of really getting after the concrete.

It was about nine last night when I attempted to finish the last section. It was still too wet to do a good finish but I did what I could.

As you can see in the photo I have one more 75” pour after the one in the morning. Then I will form up and do the approach. Hopefully the concrete mixer will catch some slack time until I start building the fence out front late next week.

Best thing about me is convinced we can leave for Yuma in a couple of weeks. I’m thinking it will be later than that, even beginning of December. There’s a ton of work to get done.

Oh oh, I think we hit a snag. Some people would argue that it's ALL ugly weight! Besides, if I gave up 20 lbs of what isn't the WORST of the ugly, where would that leave me?!?
