Hope you are staying dry. Did you get the tower figured out?

Good question. And did it get cold there? It is 31 here this morning. Not supposed to be this cold here until Dec 5. Are we supposed to be in Yuma yet? ☺

Telly says it’s 30 degrees outside this morning. VA appointment first thing and then it’s working on either tower or rafters. My smart friend explained the tower in such a way that I might be able to make this thing happen.
No internet makes me want the tower first. So that will get the immediate attention after VA. If bud is right, usually is, it should go together easier.
I hate posting on the phone.

Thanks.
Yesterday late morning Texoma Broadband called to let me know a tech was on his way to check out the problem. 4:30 young man showed up. It was the receiver that had went south. We’re back in business.

I have a smart friend, damn smart friend. Just the other day we were talking about the freezing weather and I told him about the water freezing over in the dump cart Glenda hauls behind her mower. It was supposedly 36 degrees. He then explained to me about a phenomenon where the humidity is right and the wind is on point and we will get freezing above 32 degrees. There was an interesting term involved, short term memory issues limited it’s relevance for me.
We talked about the tower issues. I found the problem with the second number 3 section. One pole is a 3+ and that means I get to cut off twelve or so tabs and weld them back on to make a 3. The number two sections are still a mess.
So I went after fabricating the long side rafters. I’m making good progress.
Weather’s much better, 34 this morning 60 this afternoon.

Check out new ATT FW (fixed wireless). If available, might work for you.

Ron it isn’t available to me. But the good thing is having this sorry internet is better than nothing. And it allows me to get back to working on the barn.
I had two 35’ rafters to fabricate, one of them is complete and the other is clamped up. I should have it finished around lunch time in the morning.
Fabricating up the posts, the beam, and the rafters has been a bugger bear. That should all be behind me and the rest of it should be installation with the bulk of the materials used as C purlins, no fabrication. We got this.

Today is chamber of commerce weather for Thereabouts. Lows in middle forties with a high of so close to seventy it is almost obscene.
This morning it’s off to Rockwall for Glenda’s six month check up. We haven’t changed over to Sherman/Denison office of Texas Oncology yet so we’re off to Rockwall. We like the oncologist and change is difficult. Today will be a wash out because of the trip and visit. We got this, need the escape from building construction.
Yesterday when I finished welding up the last rafter it was a moment of sadness. The welding table I made for fabricating posts, beams, and rafters has outlived it’s usefulness. And I now have a dozen or so large C clamps that I don’t see a need for in the immediate future. I have 18 clamps I think so a dozen at least are surplus. But when I needed them they were there for me.
Installing the rafters, 2 of them about 250 lbs, and two of them about 350 lbs is going to be a challenge. I hope to do it by myself. If I need help I have Glenda. Keep in mind the journey is about the doing, not only why, but how.
Finally, if you find fried jalopenas becoming boring may I suggest a tastey twist?

Beautiful day here too Harvey. If you have excess C clamps, make an art project for Yuma. With your fertile imagination I am sure you can come up with something.

Weather turned nice this afternoon here in MI. But not a good day to work on putting up beams. Wind is in the 20s.
Best wishes for a good report for Glenda.

Yesterday was all caught up in catch as catch can. It started out helping a neighbor with burning his tree trimmings, then it was butchering the pear tree one oh one. My full burn pit was kept busy with neighbor’s debris and afore mentioned pear tree. Then late in afternoon helped a bud with some tractor work.
Forecast was for today to be a wet all day day. But the weather never really got after it until about dark. Last hour or so has been very very loud with one strike within a thousand feet or so. Scared the beJesus out of both the internet provider and over the air television stations. It’s settled down to a soaking rain. And it’s supposed to be like that for a couple of more hours and then the front is supposed to come through with more thunder storms.
This morning when the weather just looked ugly I got after installing my first rafter. Manhandling a 250 lb 25’ long beam 20 feet in the air is a different kind of fun. Add to that the fact that I had to, not just a want, a real need to do it by myself. Now if help comes with the other three I’m kool with help. But this one had to be a me thing. I don’t ask for much but this macho mucho thing was worth begging for.
We did it.
Now if the storms fade in the afternoon I hope to put in the other “short” rafter tomorrow. I’m using screw plates with lots of TEK screws. The rafter is attached to the ridge beam with two plates and a ton of TEK’s. When I was finishing up and trying to beat the sprinkles becoming rain drops my most favorite nut setter broke. It’s installed a couple of thousand of screws at least recently at Thereabouts and I guess it finally got tired.
I might have made it sound like the installation of the rafter was just a thing. But by the time got it secured in place where I could install the screw plates I was wore slick. Mostly nerves, happens when good old fashioned fear and a tad bit of common sense are put into a scissor lift and shaken.
I really am having too much fun.
Did I mention adding four oleanders and three more “sp” ille agnus shrubs? Beat the rain on that one, well Glenda did most of that, I just dug the holes and then ran off to make supper.
