It was a good day today. Just nine more of the purlins to go. Well there will be four more but they will be outside of the framework.

The roof will wait until after Yuma. Glenda is still mulling over roof color but keeps coming back to my choice, galvanized. And we’ve agreed to try to get standing seam instead of R panels. The standing seam we can do and it’s a forty to fifty year roof vs replacing fasteners every fifteen to twenty years with the R or U panels. I can see us in our nineties up there replacing the screws.... 
Yesterday I had to take a nap and let the wind back off a bit before taking on the higher purlins. I mentioned to Glenda that is was a little nerve wracking up there that high installing the purlins. I don’t have much leverage and depend upon the lift for the manipulation for the most part. That’s all and good but when I get the purlin sitting in place over the brackets I have to lower the lift. It doesn’t lower smoothly. It drops six inches, literally drops. And every time I do that my heart stops. I can just see the purlin on one side missing the bracket and twisting loose and either falling tearing up whatever, even knocking the lift over with me in it. I can only take so many of those moments in a day, 
But I have a plan for that if it happens. glenda can maneuver the scaffolding next to where I will be stuck and I can climb over to it and then figure out what I have to do get everything back where it should be.
After lunch we’re off to Farmersville to retrieve bud’s 32 ft gooseneck dual tandem trailer and a lot of steel. We have to load the steel. We need to be home by dark because I’m not the driver I used to be once the lights go out.

I know that when you look at the photos you will think that we haven’t done anything. We have. We dealt with the wind and some rain storms but we’re down to 4 more purlins, three of them the high ones that make me nervous.
There probably won’t be much going on with the build that will be worth mentioning until next spring. After next week the postings will be about getting Jane and Blue ready for the trip to Yuma and our adventures there.
Barn will begin it’s next stage come spring.

Sure looking good Harvey. I would be nervous about working up high too. Not very steady up there any more. By the time I get to see this barn next July it will be finished!!!!!

Harvey, Just a thought, But, why couldn't you drive Jane in the building, under where the last four up high purlins go, and work off the roof of Jane? Lay a sheet of plywood down to walk on, and protect her roof! Just thinking out loud!

Rail the purlins weigh about 90 lbs. I can dead lift them but there’s no way I can lift them above my waist, shoulder issues.
What i do is use the skid steer to center a purlin on the lift. I maneuver the lift into place and use it to lift the purlin into place. The pucker moment comes when lowering the purlin into place. Lift can go up at a crawl. But when it’s lowered it drops six inches instantly. I’ve only had a purlin miss the bracket twice. Both times it was heart attack moment. I could just see it falling and damaging the concrete and knocking over the lift doing it.
Keep in mind the lift has a 30” wide foot print. So it doesn’t feel very stable at 19 ft high.
