Hope I am not too late to chime in here. I agree with Jimkate. It is my understanding that in Canada, if the unit is sold by a dealer then the propane tank must be inspected and certified, however certification is not required on a private sale. Also, remember that propane tanks do not rust on the inside as there is no oxygen so give the outside a good visual inspection and if no excessive rust you are probably good to go. Keep in mind the valves and that they are in good working order. I drove a 1986 Triple E from Canada to Mexico until last year and never had a problem filling the propane. Mind you, I never went to a Flying J.

I pulled mine down a few years ago. Had some small surface rust. I used my right angle grinder with a wire wheel on it. Hit it with some sandpaper and repainted silver. Looked like brand new. Tank was still 1/3 full.

1990 28' Georgie Boy, 454, 4bbl, Thorley Headers, Recurved Distributor, 8.75 mpg. RVM 76

In the states, frame mounted tanks are ASME certified and do not require recertification. The portable 20#, 30# and 40# tanks are UL listed and do require recertification every 10 years.
