More hp and torque on a 82 6.3 diesel
I was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting more hp and torque out of my engine, other than getting a turbo?

I doubt a turbo would help much - the added intake boost quickly exceeds the recommended Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), and can damage pistons and exhaust valves. Thus, safe power increase is pretty minimal.

Contact people on The Diesel Page forums (as I recommended earlier). They have a 6.2 / 6.5 section and it's well worth the small cost to join.

I second the recommendation for the 6.2-6.5 Diesel Pages.
The Diesel Page - for the 6.2L, 6.5L, and Duramax 6600 (6.6L) GM Chevrolet and GMC diesel engines.
First, make sure your injection system is working up to par. When I had my Suburban with the 6.2, I would occasionally use the Stanadyne Performance Formula fuel treatment and I could literally FEEL the difference in how the engine ran with that stuff. Other fuel additives may work as well, but if you can find the Stanadyne, try it.
Next, installing exhaust headers and a nice exhaust system will definitely "wake up" your 6.2. An air filter & intake that is free flowing but still draws cool air from the front of the rig would be next. Probably have to do some fabricating there. With more air and better flow you could probably "turn up" the fuel pump a bit as talked about in the Diesel Pages.

Hey Dubs, I found a book that you might want. It was published in 1983 by Trailer Life, called "RX for Performance & Mileage" by John Geraghty and Bill Estes. Its basically a tuning and exhaust guide for all the old Chevy, Ford, Dodge, etc... engines and what not.
ISBN 0-934798-06-0
You should be able find a reasonably priced copy of it on Amazon, that's where I got mine.
