My 1972 Dodge Titan Project!

I've decided to finally start a thread here about my 1972 Dodge Titan. I got it for free along with my 1973 Titan, which I have a separate thread about. The 1972 Titan is in extremely bad shape, because it's been sitting outside untouched since 2002. So I still don't know exactly what I'm going to do with it. I've thought about using parts off of it for my '73 Titan, but I also want to keep it around, since it's an extremely rare motorhome. I've seen a few '73 and later Titans online, but I've never seen another '72 anywhere or even heard of one!

Anyways, here's some pictures of it. Let me know what y'all think!Click image for larger version

There's a few fancy little features on this thing I really like that my '73 Titan doesn't have, like the trim on the mirrors, the chrome Dodge logo, and the little rain guard over the door.Click image for larger version

That's good to know! I noticed when I was changing a tire that the studs on one side had a little L on them, and on the other side they had an R.

It's FANTASTIC!

My parents started with a 1974 Titan (used) and then moved up to a 1978 Titan (new). Those were the days. Sorry I can't be there to help you bring it back to shape!

That sounds awesome! Did the Titans your parents own have the same front end design? Or was it the newer version with a front end like this?

We got this thing up to my property last week, but it barely made it. It stalled three or four times and backfired all the way up the hill, and I'll explain why later. But the headlights worked!Click image for larger version

So it wasn't until a couple days ago that I noticed this little linkage had fallen off of the carburetor. Click image for larger version

This motorhome has the famous Chrysler 440 with four barrel carburetor. For those of you who don't know I'll explain how they work. So basically these carburetors have two primary barrels and two secondary barrels. The primaries are only for when the engine is running at idle speed and low rpm. As you give it gas and bring the vehicle up to speed the secondaries open up and give the engine even more fuel and air that it needs. That linkage that mine was missing is what connects the primary barrels to the secondary barrels. So that's why the motorhome was able to idle with no issues, but as soon as we'd actually try to drive it it would stall.Click image for larger version

I also got two carburetors with this motorhome. Back when it broke down in 2002 the people had it towed back to their property. They thought the problem was the carburetor so they bought a new one to use, and they also bought new plug wires, and distributor. It turns out the main problem was just the fuel pump. We bought a new one, hooked it up directly to the battery and ran a fuel line to a gas can. Now, I think somebody actually did try to fix the carburetor, but the linkage they tried putting on was too long and they gave up. So I found that linkage just sitting on the intake manifold. I put on a different linkage from the other carburetor, so now the secondary barrels can open up how they're supposed to, and I think I'll be able to actually drive this motorhome without too much engine trouble after that.

You'll also find the original red and orange shag carpet in some spot. Unfortunately most of it's gone though.Click image for larger version

This whole vehicle also has a horrible mold smell, and lots of rodent evidence. I feel like I'll get some new unheard of disease if I'm in there for too long.Click image for larger version
