Bought my first RV. It's a 1972 Winnebago Indian. The last time it was registered was in 95, last time started was 2000. It was well taken care of. The inside is in good shape no water damage. Waiting for my mechanic buddy to get back from vacation to help get it started. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as I get this thing back on the road.

Just follow the info, enter your rigs info and find out everything you can imagine on your rig.

I also want pictures. These are great rigs but after a number of years of not being used you will want to check out anything rubber on it. We had vacuum hoses that had gone bad and we replaced them. Definitely want to check your tires. Check date numbers on them and if over 7 years just replace them especially since it sat for so long, they probably are not good or safe. Don't want a blowout. Can't find the date stamp, they really need replaced.

Most of all, enjoy your rig. Ours is wonderful! We have replaced the TV, radio with Bluetooth, couple windows, the vacuum hoses, cruise control, but she is paid for. The leveler control panel and did the oil filter change, filled the fluids, greased her down, it all needed done.

Enjoy camping and ask whenever you have a question but post those pictures please. Lynne

You have a lot to learn and this is where I and my little brother can help.
I have a 1978 Cayo Motorvator.
Matt has a 1973 GMC Glacier.

Somethings you had better expect.
All the rubber parts are aged out. It does not matter that is was not driven or that it was stored in a warehouse, consider all that stuff SHOT. I mean not just tires (a given), but all the hoses - Brake, Coolant, Fuel and whatever else. Also the belts.

The fuel system and engine calibration were not made for the stuff that is marketed as "motorfuel" these days. Apart from the fact that some of the carburetor parts will turn to goo or harden, the stuff now has a vapor pressure that would never have passed only a few years ago.

While you are changing all the rubber brake hoses (we both had to) you will end up flushing the old brake fluid out of the system. Don't feel bad, you had to do this anyway.

The wheel bearing grease may also have either gone liquid or hard (no telling which), so bearings should be repacked. The rear may be wet oiled from the differential, but I don't know which axle you have.

Buy Grease and a Grease gun. I now only use Valovine Synpro. It isn't cheap, but it is still cheaper than replacing parts. Try to over grease it. That will only cost money and not leave you broken on the road.

Can a coach this old be reliable? Only if you are willing to do what it takes. Matt and I both put about 10~12K miles on our coaches every year. He has been on a hook once about two years ago and I get to kid him because last year I broke a door latch.

Frank thanks for sharing because I just Google'd the Motorvator and boy what a cool looking rig! Also I have always been impressed by people willing to purchase older rigs to fix them up. I am curious though on how many actually know what it will take before they buy. Your information should be valuable to them and a must read!
