Need new tires for 1981 midas class a

on a p30 chassis. I need new tires though I might only be able to afford the steer tires at the moment. I have size 8r19.5 now but I have seen that you can replace them with 225/70r19.5 and am wondering if anyone here has done so and if so whether or not you had to replace the wheels. also should I replace them with a different size as I have not had trouble finding them. What are the benefits or disadvantages of changing sizes? Thanks again vintage rv knowledge guys.
