Put new tires, brakes and wheel bearing on it and sent it back to the boy in October.
It was running well, aside from a few small issues, and I thought I was done with it...

Until 2 weeks ago, when it came back on a flatbed....

He has no budget to fix, so I told him... Let me see what I can do to get it safe and driveable...

So, I set to it with my large mallet, come along, etc...
Day one, and the radiator support was pulled back and hood yanked, and persuaded back closer...

Day 2, with more hammering levering and some glue pullers, it was much better..

Took a break for a week to deal with other stuff, and today, her is how it looks...

As my Boss loved to say... Good from far... but far from good!

Other notable things I have been doing...
To practice my fabrication, and welding, made a special engine stand for a buddy and his Alfa motor...
Rotates 360 each way.

Finished and sold my '74 Spider...

Bought, bartered and traded, and restored lots of "new" tools for the "Shop"..
Shoptask Lathe/Mill combo, Rotary Table, English wheel, Planishing hammer, Bead Roller, Bigger drill press, Hossfeld Bender and tooling!

Here are some of them..
Little Shoptask combo... needed some love, small, but it is better than nothing!

6" Rotary/Indexing table..

The Hossfeld and its tooling was rough..

But its all better now.
Started collecting metal and parts for a hydralic conversion.

Drill press needed love...

It got some... my old small one is going to my son..

And of course... Ive been playing with my English wheel!

So, NOW maybe I can get back to the Airstream!

One notable setback that I need to mention...
We lost our beloved Dog, Moose in June, at 8 1/2, suddenly to bloat.
It still hurts.
She was simply the smartest, fastest, most loving, elegant, and entertaining Dog ever...

She is survived by Cole, our Lab/Pitt mix.

We are almost ready to give another rescue a loving home in her memory...

This week, with a few things in mind... I began prepping for the Motorhome revival!

Over 200 sqft(4 full hides) of Leather arrived for the retrim..
Plan is for Expresso brown, with the Pecan highlight faces..

The contrast should work...

Also got some diamond plate for the entrance steps..

Aside from that... Ive been relaxing drinking beer...

As always a good job.

Glitter in oil is never good.

This kind of looks like and art piece.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Glenn

I posted this while you were posting the additional updates.

I have been looking for a good used metal cutting band saw to add to the shop.

I bought a drill press years ago and thought it was an extravagance, now I do not know how I got along without it.

All good Glen!

This last week, I added a Lenco Spot/Stud Welder and shrinker to the roster...

Test pieces were encouraging!

Had time to inspect the leather, and begin planning...

Here is what I have...Dark Oak/Expresso x 3.

Pecan x 1.

I have more skins on the way...

I have a MIG and a TIG and that is it for welding (also a plasma cutter, all Miller Blue).

Upholstery is a field I have never ventured into. I will be following with interest.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Glenn

I have enjoyed seeing what you guys are up to. Quality work.i saw mention further back about difficulty in putting a second coat of powder on. You need to keep the gun farther away and reduce the charge to eliminate starring. Or you could get a triboelectric gun. A triboelectric will charge the powder without creating a charged cloud which will reduce the Faraday cage effect, but tribo guns are expensive.

I love powder coat. I hardly ever pain any more.

I have had very little problems getting multiple coats on.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

So, today my #2 package arrived, containing 4 more hides...:innocent:

Wasted no time in opening it up..:brows:

As soon as I pulled out the 2 dark brown hides, my heart jumped, and I rushed to grab the 3 hides I got 2 weeks ago...
My gut told me I might be right, and I am so pleased!

The 3 from before are on the right... and the 2 that arrived today are on the left..

That is 5 matching hides!
Difficult to show in a picture, and with some small grain/color variation across the hide, but...
They are so darned close, and the tags are written the same, so I have to assume they originated from the same batch! They are certainly close enough to be used on different parts of the seating or across the isle without issue.

So, I now have over 280sqft of that dark brown, and 60sqft of the pecan.
I will have some solid dimensions next week when I go to the MH, and then I have to decide on the design.
After going around and around on contrasting panels, diamond stitching, and other stuff... I am leaning toward just simple single color for most of the main living area, with maybe just a contrasting stitch...

CrazyVW and I have been back and forth on design for a week, and he brought this VarioMobile MH to my attention...
I like the simplicity of the sofa around 0.52..

Or this Airstream...
Upgrading? The Airstream Classic 33 Just Might be the Ticket - RV Life

I did get 2 other hides today.
One was described as chocolate brown, but it has a purplish hue/hint, and the other was described as caramel... but its more mustard.
They are on the far left, and I really don't care for either of them too much under artificial light... under the flash they are really odd!

The Mustard one is a weird leather too... its kinda thicker/stiffer than the others, and has a oily/waxy feel to it, and it is distressed...
It also had a label on the back, that I will investigate..

Thanks Larry!

Today...
Test pieces...
The Brown leather with contrast double stitching..

Tried it in place on our home sofa to get a better idea of how it would look in reality on a joint/seam..

Then tried the Brown/Pecan leather with a single sided contrast stitch as I would do if it was a center panel..

Then tried some upholstery material I bought a while back..

Spilt a pot of spaghetti sauce all over the top of my stove.

Tasted pretty good for dinner though...
Merry Christmas,
Tim
