So, are your carpentry skills like mine then? Measure twice, cut, and its wrong. Curse(cuss as we say in the south), cut 2 more times WITHOUT measuring, and it fits!

I really get aggravated with myself when it comes to carpentry because I dont like being a loser at something. I feel like giving up, but I dont like being a quitter either. LOL

As far as my "skills" go, all I can say is...I wouldn't have any at all but for the endless procession of Fascinating Projects I've undertaken!
I'm much too cheap to hire projects out, and much too proud to admit that there's anything I can't do...

A fatal combination of Personality Defects, really.

But I've certainly picked up a lot of useful info along the way, and actually finished a few projects.
As an example, there's a 1965 Ford Falcon station wagon out in my carport that, from a place of complete ignorance, I dragged out of a farmer's field in the Fullest Confidence that I could resurrect it.

And I did!

But only because I didn't "know" that it was more than I could do.

And as far as that measure-twice-saw-once thing goes, its refined version in my corner of the world is:

If a Thing is Worth Doing, It's Worth Doing TWICE!

I'll let you know if I'm successful in Making a Pile by snookering that unsuspecting Scamp owner out of that little old trailer...

Too funny JohnRR! Never looked at it that way. Thanks for the encouragement. I did a little more work to it last night and started feeling positive about how it was coming along. That probably wont last though! LOL

Francesca, a Ford Falcon station wagon??? I would love to see pics of it! I love old cars! I drove a 64 Corvair to high school (in the early 80's) and my friend had an old 4 door Falcon I rode in too. His was a 6 cylinder 3 speed on the column.

Since you asked...

I did the Falcon redo some time ago, and all the pics are on paper.
Unfortunately, my digital camera went belly up recently...When I get a chance I'll look through my paper pictures and scan a few in of the Falcon project.

But only a few!
I sure don't want to throw this thread off your project, but the before/after shots might show how much it's possible for us never-say-never types to accomplish

I spent a few more minutes working on it today, but still dont have enough work done worthy of posting pics. The back wall I'm working on is gonna be tricky. It has 3 angles.

The neat thing I'm proud of believe it or not, is that I plug in one main plug and everything comes on ready to work; poarch light, interior light, work light, stereo, and heater. And the camper is parked just off the back poarch.

It gets dark here at 5:00 and its rainy and cold, so all that is a nice bonus!

Francesca and everyone, keep pushing me so I will keep working on it!

Hey, Ronnie!

I think you've made great progress, especially since you're working on the rig outside!
You've made it watertight, no small thing with these old trailers, and the main thing to be concerned about before winter.
You've stopped any further damage from occurring
And don't be discouraged if you don't have something new to show on film.
Getting the electrical stuff right is so-o-o-o important.
I always want to rush ahead to the "fun" cosmetic stuff, but experience has taught me that hidden things like wiring/plumbing are almost impossible to do after walls etc. are finished.

And now for some (unsolicited!) advice:

Here we are in the longest, darkest two weeks of the year...do yourself a favor and lay off for awhile- enjoy the Holidays and get back to the trailer project when the days start lengthening again!

Meanwhile, since it has light and heat and is right off the back porch...isn't it the perfect "Man Cave?
Why not use it that way for a while?
Let's face it, as soon as you get it all gussied up, you're gonna lose it to the daughter.
Stick a comfortable old chair out there...maybe your laptop...a stack of paper...and spend some time "planning your next steps".
Also...and this tip is sort of from my husband , though he thinks I don't know what he's up to when he and his buddies are out in our shop:
Hang a bell on the back door of the house!
That way, when you're out there watching Action Movies you'll hear folks coming,
and can right-quick switch over to the Very Complex List of Repairs you're "contemplating"

I've also observed that a measuring tape can be quickly deployed to create an impression of "getting something done"!

Ahhhh!! You are too funny!! And thank you so much for the kind words of inspiration!

It is the perfect "man cave" at the moment. When I do work on it now, it's going to be slow go. I see where I am going to have to make special pieces to get all the studs in the wall to tie together, and tie to the shell. Unfortunately, so much damage was done to the original wall framing that I dont have a design pattern to go back with. A lot of the original wood had dissolved from years of leaks. I'm having to come up with my own way. And as I mentioned, the wall has 3 bends in it due to the shape of the camper. That's what is creating all the difficulty.

I did come up with an idea though. I'm going to hang Christmas lights on the exterior that light up when I plug in the main plug. So, that will probably be my next progress pic posted! LOL

Mrs. Busybody-Person simply can't resist offering a few ideas for the (temporary) interior of The Cave...

This is nice- all the little comforts/tools needed...and the furniture is of the right era, don't you think?


But perhaps you'd prefer a more Minimalist Approach:

The possibilities are endless!

Nice cave! Nothing wrong with that furniture era at all. Our nicest furniture is more dated than that. i have been fortunate in that aspect since my wife loves me for me and not fancy things. Of course, we have only been married a little over a year and she is starting to tighten the reigns on wanting things to look nicer in so we can invite friends over.

Sounds like thats a WO-Man cave rather than a man cave. LOL
