New Member, New RVer with a '71 Scamper

Hi there:

My name is Cindy and I'm from Springhill, Nova Scotia. My husband I just bought our first camper, a 1971 Ford F350 Scamper. We were not in the market right now for an RV, but have tossed the idea around as a future "want". Another future want was a vintage car or truck. So when this old Scamper came up for sale by a local elderly lady, we couldn't resist going to look at it. It appeared to be in excellent shape and well taken care of. It has 115,000 miles on it.

We know that it was built by Pre-Built Mfg. in Lethbridge, Alberta, and it was sold by Canadian Leisure Travel Co. in Calgary. We know from documentation given to us that it had one owner up until about 1988, and this owner put 85,000 miles on it. We believe it then had two subsequent owners, until finally the lady we bought it from who owned it for the last 11 years. All of its appliances and features are fully operational.

We have never owned an RV before, so this is a whole new experience for us and man do we have a lot to learn! The lady we bought it from showed us how to operate everything and we videotaped her instructions. We also have documentation to help us too.

Pics are posted in the thread:

I saw another one of your members has a '70 Scamper. I'll shoot him a message and let him know that another old Ford Scamper is alive and well on the east coast!

Cheers!
Cindy

P.S.: Below is a scan of one of the documents in the bundle of materials the lady gave to us. Pretty Cool. We have the manual for the camper, as well as the owner's manual for the truck, and manuals for the various appliances too.

Gorgeous! What a sweet old girl, and she looks so straight and clean inside. You will have wonderful trips in this rig.

It's going into storage in the winters, so no need of a woodstove yet! lol I saw your thread on it though, what a great idea if you're living in it as I imagine propane could get expensive. I'd miss the table though!

My hubby and I have been working hard sprucing up the Scamper. I've sewn some new upholstery covers, we've painted the interior and I'll be making some new curtains for it. It looks awesome so far. I'll post some before and after pics once it's finished.

Cheers,
Cindy

I thought I'd post an update - we've been on three camping trips with our Scamper so far (and one more coming up this weekend) and we are really enjoying it! We love the old "bumpside" Ford, and it draws a lot of attention wherever it goes. She wanders a bit and gets 10mpg (US), but hey, it's what we expected! We didn't go too far from home yet, the longest trip being four hours away. But the truck worked flawlessly, as did everything in the camper (except the dump valve, but that's fixed now). Below are some pics of our Scamper making its way around Nova Scotia, with our Scamper/Jeep convoy, Jeff cooking breakfast, me driving it home, at the beach on the Bay of Fundy, etc. Good times!

Cheers,
Cindy

In addition to my 78 Winnebago, I also own a 70 Ford F100. Here is a good informational website for the truck portion of your Scamper.
