New to me toad

Well, after I installed the headers and hooked up the car dolley for the first time, I loaded up my 03 Bonneville and took it or a ride to see how it would pull the extra weight around. To my surprise, with all the non working polution removed and the headers installed it pulled the car and dolley around quite well, although when I was down hooking the safety chains up I noticed a sticker saying that I was drastically over weight on the towing due to the cheaply built frame extension. Now the dolly is for sale and I purchased this nice little clean (non rusted) Geo tracker that weighs in at a whooping 2387 lbs.

Looks nice. We had purchased a dolly and decided to get rid of it and buy a four down tow vehicle. Much nicer.

I had a 4x4 Tracker years ago, solid little mini-Jeep. Terrible on gas and very uncomfortable, but it was great for camping and I can see how it would work well as a toad.

thats strange, this seems to be doing pretty good on gas, it's only 1.6 liter and 2300 lbs, my wife doesnt think its too uncomfortable and she's particular about that. Now if I was to do a 10 hour drive I might be complaining about the ride

I seem to recall getting somewhere around 20-22 mpg with it, same engine and an automatic transmission. I suppose that's not terrible (my truck at the time was 16-18), but for a small vehicle with a tiny 4 banger under the hood I had hoped for more. Of course, it had brick-like aero and was geared low for crawling all detracting from fuel efficiency, as well. We drove it between Houston and Dallas a few times and were miserable, and we are not large people, but around town and on a campground it was fine.

Oh yeah, we had two complete softtops stolen off of it, and one window was cut open. If you want to save money, leave the doors unlocked. Those windows are expensive to replace, better to let a thief just get in the easy way and don't leave anything worth taking in it.

we had talked about driving it to Pa. from here but, that little engine screams at 75 mph, 4000 rpm

They make great toads. Gas mileage is 20 or so, never understood why so low. Dont worry about 4000 rpm, these motors can take it. I have had 9 so far.

yea, for 2300 lbs you'd think they would get better mileage, I guess the 4 wheel drive drag is causing it and, the stiff gearing. An overdrive would have helped

Mine has overdrive. 4speed auto, still no help with mileage.
