Ok, It could be anywhere between 3600 to 5600 gcw. As to what the front and rear axles can handle...no soap! Empty weight is 3623 pds. Tag on the door jamb is 5000 gcw. I guess that makes mine 5000 gcw. That makes it 1377 pounds of loaded weight.I think i will have to do something on the rear end to handle extra weight. We are guessing 1600 pound pin weight. That puts me over. Add gas, us and tools and we are adding another..1000 pounds maybe?? That's 1200 pounds i need to figure out where to put elsewhere.. I am thinking air bags. My friend tows a bigger trailer than ours and he has a 1/2 ton pickup. His has a 7200 gvwr. Can't find out what mine are. sucks....

Don't forget the limitations of that half-ton semi-floating axle, Dan . And here I sit, with this 5800lb rated Dana 60 going nowhere....

Yeah, i know...Not to sure what i am doing there yet. I still can't find the max gcwr on the trailer, but 15-20% should be on the pin. Am wondering why they made different gvw ratings. There are those three different ratings all for the C-10.. 3600, 5000, 5600. This truck had a V-8 engine when it was new. i can fix that but what about the rest of that?? What i am missing is what can be tow weight and if or what the carry weight on rear axle? If i have to, I can change the rear-end. If it keeps leaking out the pinion seal i will change it! That is the third seal since i fixed it the first time. Second when i replaced the Pinion and ring gear. Now it is leaking again. Am getting tired of this crapola!!! I am sitting at or around 4500 pounds when we are in it. Have a friend at the transfer station. Removing the cap will be removing about 250 pounds as it is fiberglass and really heavy. Took three of us to get it on correctly but Larry and i put the thing in the truck when we got it. The new tool boxes are light. The old toolbox is not. So, i am not sure how this will be until i get it weighted again. Not sure how much if any that will make any difference or not. Wish my friend would sell me his truck....

If you keep replacing seals, it is probably the sealing surface on the yoke.

Or his axle tube vent is plugged, the old axles from the 60s and 70s had a really crappy vent near the axle tube that rusted and clogged easily, causing oil and grease to force its way out of the pinion seal.

My Spicer 70 HD that I put on my truck was suffering from that, swapped the vents out to one for my year of truck that had the raised vent assembly and no problems .

Still can't find anything on the weight but worked on the toolbox. I got the lid all cut and welded and looks a little bent up yet. It will look better when i am ready to paint. I need to cut out the sides for it and the internal bracing. Also the slide so i can add a drawer. Don't have the drawer yet. Will need to make one out of something. There is a bunch of metal all over the place at my friends place, so i will find something. Later, I am sore and want to get off this thing and get something to eat, Dan

Well, some bad news, We lost the deal on the trailer. They had a gal who worked where they do and she lost her home so they asked if we would be ok with that and we told them ok. So....i am looking for another one. I am going to finish the truck with the idea that i can haul a 5th wheel or a travel trailer. I would be better with a 5th wheel. Anyway i have more funds to fix the truck. I worked on the tool box again. I have to add the bracing to it yet but it has the sides spot welded. Tomorrow i can start up the braces and get it ready for a little skim coat of bondo. I am going to paint them both with silver with metal-flake and a couple of coats of clear coat to make it really shine. I have the shots on the Picasa site and a couple here of the box i am building and one of the other box. I need to sand it down and get it ready to paint. Will do that in February. Later, Dan

Debbie and one of the managers of the court have one that the owners may want to sale. Don't know for sure yet. It has sit for over three years now and they just have it parked there in a storage lot. Have to wait and see.
I was starting up the work on the toolbox and the plasma cutter died. It is under warranty, so it will be fixed but have lost that till it comes back. So, with that gone i worked on the body work. The bed on the left side. I got it smooth and on the other side where it had two holes to fill and runs of paint to sand out. I still have some work to finish on that side. I quit because i was loosing daylight. Tomorrow is another day, Dan

Nah, it wastes too much metal! I can wait and work on the truck itself. I finally get the left side of the bed done and i got one coat of mud on the other side. My arms are shot from using a air file!! Those things will put a hurting on you for sure. Tomorrow is Larrys Birthday and so i can't work on it all day but there is not much to do on it so i might get it done by 1pm or so. It is ready for the second coat on a few places and a few skin coats to make it smooth. That should not take too long and i will prime it and then i only have the inside of the bed and the cab, ah yes the cab..... A couple of shots below, Dan
