Old water drain valve leaky

Just wanted to post a solution (yea I know the best would be to replace it) I had to come up with for my propane water heater.

Turns out the only leak (I know its got some ugly surfaces) was the drain valve of the water heater.

I had a few trips to the local hardware store, and lowes before I found a proper fitting part.

Here is a picture of the original drain (it has a white plastic handle to turn it (it broke off when I turned it hard)

valve option

I had the option after removing it to either repair the missing rubble ring (I think it needs a rubber or fiber ring) or replace the whole thing.

Here is a picture of the open valve where there should be a seal of some kind.

I also had to take the hose connector off the front of the valve in order to get access to the fitting with a 6 point socket. A dog bone wrench did not have enough bite

new valve

Thread on tank is 1/4 npt which is hard to find a single valve threaded for that. I did find one it was from lowes. It was not for the application but is made for higher pressure and temperature than it will ever see in this. In addition its a brass valve body.

Here is the valve I used:

In addition I can add a nipple and hose (I will make up before I travel) to drain it away from the RV

Installed

Ok I installed the valve, I did have to remove the handle until it was installed.

It works great now.

Now I just need to get a burner tube (mine looks horrible)

I agree, sometimes you just fit to work things out. Now I just need the burner pipe.
