Here is a picture of our ’79 Chieftain.
According to my wife, the best motorhome we’ve had.

I think that’s because we had a lot of good times camping with our two daughters, from when they were 2 and 4 years old ‘till they were 9 and 11 in ’93.

It had the double passenger front seat, slept 8, so the kids could each bring a friend on our weekend outings and it had a small bathtub in the back.
440 Chrysler, towed our boat effortlessly, Dodge chassis rode nice. Slow in the mountains, but tucking in behind a large semi always made it seem easy.

This was our first RV, some 35 years ago now. It was a '69 Shasta. No bathroom and it took a LOT of elbow grease and some materials to bring it back to life. Seems it rained a lot less once we left tent camping behind.

I'll bet the inexpensive-to-replace flat windshield glass was a plus, too.

Ha, never though about that, as far as I can remember, never had a chip in those windows...

Not so lucky with the next one though, got a stone chip right in front of the driver's position. Thought about getting it "fixed" in the spring, but over the winter the whole thing cracked, top to bottom...

Edit: ahhh yes, I bought a bunch of rattle cans and changed the color on the bottom

85 Fleetwood Southwind / 76 Jayco

Hi Everyone! Just wanted to stop by and post a couple pics of our camper and motorhome. First up is a 1985 Fleetwood Southwind. We just picked this bad boy up last weekend.

Next is our 76 Jayco King 6 (I think that's the model. I'm not %100 on that). At 40 years old, it still suits us just fine!

Jayco with lights. I call this the "Gypsy Caravan photo" LOL.

Hey whem2fish! So you have a 85 too? That's great. You're going to be my best friend
We just got this MH last weekend and have a lot to learn. I think I found the Southwind manual inside, but any others you can share with me would be appreciated! Thank you!

OK so I promised to post some pics after replacing the hardwood floor. I think I managed as good a match as possible to the original color and style.

I also had to do some interior work on the fore dinette bench due to a broken back inside the furniture itself. So I removed the bench, carefully skinned its original upholstery, built an entirely new piece of furniture using the old pieces as a pattern, and then painstakingly reupholstered the new bench with the original upholstery. Phew! My first upholstery attempt so I'm pretty pleased with myself. Ha! So far no one has been able to tell which one I did. So I'll take that as a success. But you can judge for yourself. Everything else in the coach is pretty much original and in spectacular condition.

So with no further adieu, as promised, original 1987 Vogue mauve and burgundy. Ha! Enjoy!

Oh and here's a few pics of her in the wild on her shakedown run to a vintage BMW bike rally in Mississippi. Hadn't been out of the corral since 2007 but with lots of pre trip TLC and cobweb removal she performed beautifully.

Great job! Love the coach. We have a '89 Foretravel that's very similar. Love that old school quality and wood work!
