'88 Holiday Rambler

Here's a pic of our '88 Holiday Rambler Imperial, with matching "Rolls Royce" golf cart and trailer to haul it. The motorhome has 56k miles on it.

Thanks Ken. Also, thanks for posting this thread; it's fun to see some other nice old rigs out there. Here's a couple more pics of my HR; the interior pics are just after I purchased it, this past April (09). I've since removed the carpet and installed a laminate floor, a HUGE improvement. The other two pics are just a couple random pics from camping trips we made this year.

Not sure if any of you are following my restoration thread on the other forum but here's a couple of her after most of the work is complete. Heading for CA on Tuesday via Vegas for a shakedown trip to see what fails. Still got a few jobs left to do - new power converter needed, replace the TV antenna and rebuild the satellite system (new components in the positioner box and a new belt in the dish itself).

Nice job, Steve! Sounds like all of our hard work may soon be starting to pay off. I went through a similar, but not as in-depth, process with our Holiday Rambler, so I understand and appreciate some of what you're going through. Can you post pics of the interior on here?

Thumbs up Sea trials

STEVE: Good luck on your trip. You will be keeping us updated on your day to day findings on the road I hope.

Be safe and we are looking forward to posts and pics from the trip.

With that slick shine she should get much better mileage.

This has been a very entertaining and informative thread - can't say enough for the author, his courage - and his skills with tools, keyboard and camera - Thanks seems hardly enough acknowledgement for so great an effort!

SO, how did the shakedown go - did you ever get that generator running, and how about the engine and rest of the MH running gear - all go well - and how would you rate the power and mpg - we have a generally similar '88 Winnie, so am interested in ALL elements of yours.

The dash is completely stock

Shakedown starts tomorrow - got delayed by work so leaving in the morning. Genny is not working yet due to a failed ignition coil - need to try and find a replacement (Kohler)

Engine and tranny work great - it might be running a little rich and it's not happy until it's warmed up so I might rebuild the carb shortly. It also has the Gear Vendors overdrive so we'll see how that improves drivability.

The only thing I'd say I'm not really comfortable with is the exhaust system - it has straight pipes running to a single muffler on each side which exits in front of the drive axle and it sounds like a stock car from outside.

I'll keep the thread updated as to progress on the road.

Thumbs up

Hey Steve,

By chance do you know if the thermostat had been removed or is stuck?

I take it the exhaust had been "modified" from stock?

It's still the best looking 2200 dollar RV I have ever seen. Will you take double for her?
