Power Cord

I have seen this question asked a few times about power cords. My Georgie Boy (97) has a 50 amp power cord. It also requires that the power cord be plugged into a socket in the electrical bay to utilize the generator, as you see in the picture.
To make things a lot easier, I measured the amount I would need to utilize the plug and added a couple of inches for good measure. Went to my local RV shop and bought a male and female plug for the Fifty Amp cord. The plugs come with instructions so read them and follow you shouldn't have a problem.

30 amp plugs that require you to plug them into a socket for use of the generator would be the same, except, of course get 30 amp plugs.

Now instead of dealing with finding the end of the long heavy 50 amp cord, I just plug my short end into the socket and am in business. Notice that the new plugs with the finger holds will not fit back through the electrical bay access hatch. You just unplug from the Power Pole at the campsite and pull the electrical cord back through the hole. Course it still has the stock small 50 amp plug that comes right back through.

Also note that with this setup, my Progressive Surge Protector can reside inside the Electrical bay, out of the weather and out of sight.

Hope this helps someone. Anyhow, all you people with automatic transfer switches, please disregard

Why not install a 50A Auto transfer switch in that area where the surge guard is

Remove gen wire from out...wire to the ATS
Remove power cord plug...wire to surege guard then to ATS

Remove plug from main panel cord....wire from ATS

Adding plug after plug after plug is just adding points of failure.

If you ever feel your 50 amp plugs, they get warmer then the cable, or any wired connections.

As mentioned, an Auto Transfer Switch could be hard wired in pretty simply.

I am all about KISS myself. Plugging and unplugging between power sources is a bit inconvenient, but I would rather have a failing or overheating plug in an outside compartment than on an automatic transfer switch which in my case would have to be installed inside the coach in an enclosed space not readily accessible in case of fire or failure.
