Question about repairs for tanks.

Let me first say I'm rather ignorant about the 1986 Glendale (a Canadian make) that I bought but am learning as I spend money with each breakdown.

Question: Are the grey water and black water tanks on Rv's of this age made of a plastic, aluminum, or steel?

Situation : It appears that my grey water tank has spring a leak near one corner just above a seam. I can push my little finger through.

What can I use to repair this?

They are most likely plastic.

Eternabond tape, applied to a clean dry surface and rolled down hard will seal a crack for as long as you own the rig.

There are also a variety of plastic mending kits, and lastly, a plastic fabrication shop can "weld" plastic.

Thank you

I appreciate your help and will look into tape or plastic bonding putty.

Odds are they're Polypropelene which you will discover that nothing really adheres to properly.

In order to fix poly tanks, one must "weld" the cracks using scrap poly pieces and a heat source to melt the plastic together.

I did similar fixing a split in the side of my fresh water tank, but since I didn't have extra poly, I used the stove burner in the camper and a flat head screw driver to melt the crack back together, then used a poly radiator patch kit to help reinforce it.
