Random switch in a 1988 Airex by Rexhall
Hi, all.
I've just bought a 1988 Airex 29' motorhome. Still trying to figure everything in it. One issue I have is a switch mounted on the face of the bathroom cabinet. It has nothing on it but a makers name (Jensen). Two fairly heavy wires, one red and one black, come from it and up into the ceiling.
I have no idea what it does, so does anyone else have a Rexhall and can help me out?

A question , you've said wires , as opposed to 110 volt wiring cable, so I'll assume it's a switch for 12 volts .
Did you check for power to the switch ?
It could be for equipment a previous owner installed, then removed when he sold the RV, and he just left the switch rather than leave a hole in the wall.

Sorry for not acknowledging your reply earlier...
Yes, it's 12V, and the red wire is hot. It's an illuminated switch, and the switch lights up when turned on, so there's a complete circuit, not just a wire hanging in space. What that circuit IS, though, remains a mystery unless and until I tear into the ceiling.

Richard, I would think it is to turn on the hot water heater...lights up and then when the gas hot water fires ,it will go out...make sure the propane is turned on....C

I thought of that too, but the on-off switch for the water heater is on the water panel in the kitchen area.

It would make sense to have a hot water heater switch in the kitchen and bathroom. I've never seen it, but it makes sense. It's kind like our Winnabago has three switches for the generator, dash, above stove, and above bed.
What I would do is pull the water heater fuse and see if it kills the power.

My Rex has a set of three unmarked switches in the bathroom. Light, ceiling fan,.........and water pump. ( in case you might need it to flush while you are in there )

Just an update... It's the switch for the 110v A.C. water heater. Why the switch for the gas water heater is in the kitchen, while that for the electric one is in the bathroom, is a whole new question ��

Is the 110VAC element of the water heater an add-on (Hott Rod)? That could explain the different location; i.e. it may have been easier to install the switch there than near the kitchen panel.
