Refrigerator Shelves - Clean or replace?

Anybody know the easy way to clean refrigerator shelves. I remember reading somewhere something about putting them in a garbage bag and spraying something on them and sealing it up for a while. But what do you spray on them?

Or should I buy new ones. Lowest prices I have seen anywhere are around $30 per shelf. $30 times 5 shelves = $150 plus or minus, and shipping! Sure like to know how to clean them!

Update: Soaked in Purple Power overnight and Scrubbed and Wirebrushed. Then painted with silver Rust-oleum. They look good. Time will tell on how they hold up.
