I just purchased a 1978 trailer and I need help. Can you install a floating floor in a trailer? What about ripping out old bench seat and putting in a futon?

Yes you can. I used vinyl plank flooring. Has held up very well.

absolutly,,,,you can install floating floor, rip out anything you want and install whatever you want,,,,thats the great thing about these things all things are possible,,and if you get stuck on a project there is a ton of help on here..
the wife and i love getting these old campers and bringing them back to life ...

I have a 1990 HiLo travel trailer that e had to do extensive repairs on due to water damaged walls. Since you have done the floor first i would cover the new floor with cardboard and duct tape at the seam or edges. Defeniately take out all windows and reinstall with butyl tape.lexal caulk. While the windows are out you will get a look at your interior walls for damage. Taking out your windows is easily a do it your self job. You tube has a video on this. We only riped out two wall sections to the fiberglass. DH used a harbor freight tool to disect the layers of the wall. Lots of scraping. When you have your interior wall/cabover stripped completely coat it with bondo/walmart. This really stinks and you must wear an industrial respirator. Follow the directions on the can. DH applied it with a cheap throwaway brush. It dried to a really nice shinny hard finish. It has been three years since our restoration and we have no leaks. Build some kind of a temporary structure so you can work on it and it won't get wet. We used 1/8th paneling by Georgia Pacific that already had the wallpaper on it. Had to have our ACE hardware order it in. The toll from HF is a multi tool with different blades. The walls consisted of three layers.1/8th laun/sheet of styrofoam insulation,and then the paneling. While the walls are apart coat any steel framing with rustoleumprimer/paint/ Also seal up any gaps with can spray foam. You can always shave it to desired thickness. We had great success with using heavy duty liquid nails from Walmart. Maybe two tubes in an s pattern on the back of the paneling/layers. DH used a floor roller to press the layers together. Best tool we ever bought for this job.It will take you more time and $ than you had planned. I truly believe you can do this and it will be better than new.
