Replacing Wheel Bearings Help Needed

I have a 1988 Executive Prestige DP, Class A with tag axle. Was just told I will probably need to replace the Wheel Bearings? Need help on how to tell what ones are needed and where to buy them? Also possible to DIY?Thanks for any help you can give me!

Any other info on why you were told it needed wheel bearings??

You can DIY but will need some heavy duty equipment, hydraulic jack, jack stands, torque wrench and seal installer.

most of the time the part numbers are on the bearings them self

if you find a shop that seals in bearings only in a BIG town then you good

its not hard at all just alot of 100lbs parts to play with

I was pulling out of RV lot after having the outlet valve on my water heater fixed when my brother & a couple guys heard a noise they said were the wheel bearings! That's all I know at this point!
I watched a video on YouTube and have admitted it's not a DIY job for me anymore, 20 yrs ago I would have attempted it! Lol
Now praying the cost won't be arm & leg...but I do have fronts, duels, and tag axles and no idea when they were done by previous owner.

Usually you feel the wheel bearing going out before you hear them (i.e. vibration in the chassis or steering wheel, brake drag, etc.). Not mistrusting their observation because wheel bearings are important and not checking them and not replacing them when necessary can lead to much more expensive repairs if one seizes and damages the axle it rides on. Find a reputable repair shop(s) in your area and have them checked. Fronts probably need repacking anyway.

Where are you located. A reputable shop can listen and tell you which bearing is or is not making noise. The big problem is finding someone you can trust. Talk to other RVers around you, see who they use. If you are in SW Florida, I got the guy you want.

Thanks...LOVE this group!

Thanks for all your help, I'm in Kokomo Indiana and think I found someone I can trust to check them. Hadn't noticed any of the symptoms mentioned but rather be safe then sorry for sure, especially before hitting the road full time and alone!

Take them out-1 at a time- the race is a "cup"the bearing is a "cone" look at the race-look for pits or signs of heat or wear (blue color or lines of wear). Take the bearing in your hand & look for metal flakes-flakes mean it is coming apart. If no flakes-clean in gas or mineral spirits- then put the clean bearing in the race & turn with downward pressure -if you feel a rough spot-it is bad.

put bearing grease in left palm-put bearing in right hand and " pinch" grease into bearing, until it comes out the other side of roller bearings- Done! Put it back together

Not wheelbearings:-)

Thanks everyone for all your help! took to my car mechanic to check for me and it was a broken break spring no damage since we caught it quick. He also checked everything lubed replaced an inside dually tire with bad blister, then declared I'm road ready at last! Iam so blessed! Have a great day my IRV2 friends.
