Reseal/Recoat Roof On '88 Honey

Hi folks, this is my first post here so bear with me. Last fall I picked up my first motorhome, a 1989 Honey Sportcruiser. Mechanically I have pretty well got it under control, but I need to reseal the roof. It seems to be an aluminum roof since I can see exposed shinny metal in a few spots. The question is, what to recoat it with? Currently is has some sort of highly textured yellow stuff, which I think may have been some kind of silicone or rubber, but the PO seems to have put a coat of the old silver aluminum roof coating over that. Most of that has come back off now. Can anyone give me some idea of what would be the best way forward from here?

I would definately use a wire brush and get all the loose off. When I bought my 1990 last year the dealer i trust told me not to use the aluminum coating on the roof, as that leads to black steaks on the sides. He told me to use a fibered white alkyd on the seams and around the vents and stuff, he told me I could coat the rest with the same stuff without the fibers. I used a brand called hengs. So far I have only did the seams.

Before applying get all preparation out of the way. Clean the roof then cover vents and side moldings with paper/plastic and use blue or yellow masking tape (no sticky residue) to hold in place. Saves lots of time in clean-up. Don't forget rubber gloves.
