Thinking about resealing the windows in the coach and at the same time, pulling off the old paneling and reapplying with some 1/4 inch plywood.
Q1: Has anyone had their windows resealed recently & could you give me an idea of the costs?

Q2: Has anyone resealed their own windows? Is it difficult? Could it be a DIY project?

Q3: Has anyone replaced the wall paneling at the same time? (it appears that one would need to pull the windows to effectively do this) Is this a DIY project??

I have an awesome set of power tools so, I can't see that this should be too difficult.

Want to get some input before putting this on the 'Honey-Do' list & really it's on the "Honey-DON'T" list!

We have pulled windows and its awkward but not difficult. It takes 2 people.

The windows are held in by the screws in the frames. When you take out the screws, the frame + glass can be wiggled out of its hole gently from the outside.

You'll need to scrape off the old gray (butyl) caulking tape which was sealing the window to the outside skin. If there's any silicone sealant gooped up on the window frame, scrape every single tiny bit off- nothing else will ever stick over silicone.

Sometimes you'll find the window hole is cut too large, in which case you'll need to do some creative patching with pop-rivits and aluminum or something similar.

Replace just like it came off, only with new sealant. We personally like Eternabond, but any butyl rubber tape can be used. If the side of the rig has corregations or is not exactly smooth, you can use 2 layers of tape.

Screw back into place (consider replacing any exterior screws with stainless, while you're at it) and tighten until the butyl squeezes out slightly everywhere. Trim off any excess sealant with a plastic knife or something similar.

On replacing interior paneling; on our rig, this would be a gut-to-the-rafters kind of endeavor. The paneling goes behind cabinets, built-ins, ceiling trim and yes, window frames

If you need to do it, you need to. If you just want to redecorate, personally I'd try paint or wallpaper instead.

Good luck with the reseal! Our windows are also needing a reseal, but with having fun and games already resealing the water heater, fuel filler door & potable water fill door, our windows may just get the old stuff scraped out & decent 3M marine product filled in.

What with rusted bolts & screws, stripped holes & not perfect wood or metal behind to thread new bolts into those things were fun! But have gone back together ok.

Where some panels have delamination, plus other movement I'm worried we will take the windows out to reseal the proper way & not be able to get them back in:( !!!!

Just a quick question about that video & window sealing in general.

When putting the new sealing tape on is it ok to put it round the whole cutout of the window? Or leave a small gap at the bottom in the middle? As Ive read somewhere before its best to leave a small gap at the bottom?

Also Im surprised they added a bead of silicone to the outside, where so many people are like "thats blasphemy!!!"

You want butyl tape around the entire perimeter. I then add a bead of caulk (I prefer pro flex) along the top which extends about 1/2 way down the sides.

Thanks for the info .. will get round to doing the windows eventually, now armed with some good advice.
