Glad you're getting things straightened out , yes the numbers from the door will get you the correct parts for the chassis . MB 400 is the key # if memory serves.
I don't understand the numbers for the weight though .
440 CID , in a 79 , would be a little bit of a rare bird ; I factory ordered a 79 Dodge half ton, in Nov 78, with the 440 and was told I couldn't get it .
The 440 engine option had been dropped for 79.
Had to settle for the 360 4BBL.
Please post a picture of the engine when you have the dog house off.
These engines used an electronic ignition , and operated the ignition coil on two separate voltages ; one for crank up spark , second for running spark; the volts were supplied to the coil through a " dual ballast resistor " that was prone to failure . I had my 79 P/U for 14 years and lost track of the number I had to replace , I had a second resistor mounted side by side so all I had to do in the event of a no start condition was move the wire connectors to the new resistor. If you carry any spare parts with you, carry the resistor ( 1/2 thick 1"wide 3" long , two wires at each end ) I still have one in my tool box if you need a picture.
By approx 1982 that particular resistor was no longer used .

It's possible the 440 was still available on the bare chassis vehicle since they would have been intended for heavier commercial uses. Just a guess - I'm actually a Ford person (although my first wife and I had 2 Dodge Darts early in our marriage)...

I will post up some pix in the morning of it
It’s funny you had mentioned the dual ballast resistor As there were 3or 4 of them in the glove box lol
I wonder if there a work around or mod that can be done to prevent any issues with it
Thanks for the pictures .
That's the RB engine alright.
Now something I have to question , this appears to be a Rochester Quadra Jet carb. With fuel line modifications visible .
I'm 99.9% sure OEM would have been a Carter Thermo-quad , and the rust visible on the engine doesn't match with the low miles stated earlier in your post , as well as the need to replace the carb.
I'll do some digging on the carb , OEM just to be sure.

I can confirm that both of the above are right on. But call it a TravelArie/Dodge and while it may say "Sportsman" it is either a D300 or D350 chassis. The door tag will confirm that.
If you plan to do anything other than look at it, get two kinds of professional help. One would be an old crusty mechanic that knows how to deal with old stuff, and the other would an analyst to help you decide if this is something you really want in your life.
As the owner of now two ancient RVs, I can tell you that if you are going to have to hire the work it will need done, you can't afford it.

Great advice! That is a lot of work and I’ve owned another old one.
My moms 74 had round
headlights for sure. [emoji1360]
As a side note it looks as though the over cab sleeping area has been “fixed “ at one point or another and there’s screws holding the paneling on and has been painted. And is also missing trim.
What I was getting at with this comment is it could be possible that when the sleeping area was leaking above the motor water could have got on it and caused the rust ( might be a bit of a stretch lol).
Honestly I think it looks worse in the pic it’s mostly surface rust.
I’ll go to the mto this week and see what I can find out about the km’s that were on it last time it was registered. I’m thinking that it’s possible the km’s rolled over
Dodge's set up for odometer roll over was a soaked felt that blackened the left digit ( yellow arrow ) a replacement speedo with zero kms would have a red digit on the white back ground ( yellow circle ) and a sticker on the doorpost indicating the reading of the original odometer.
The soaked felt may have dried up before the roll over in this case. First picture.
Still looking for confirmation on the Thermo Quad carb . The Rochester and the Thermo Quad had a similar spread bore set up , and the same mounting bolt pattern , but Thermo Quad and sometimes Holley carbs were used by Dodge on the 440 in 79 , the Holley would be more common on the 440-3 truck engine , in a class A chassis. Not the 440-1 in a class C.
Second photo is a 77, 440 in a class C showing Thermo Quad carb and stock fuel line location at the arrow.
I'm limited by no longer being in the same city as the Chrysler dealer where I worked when your 79 was new, and there is no Chrysler shop where I live , so I can't get the original service manuals. Over the next few weeks I will be back in the dealership and will do what I can to get the correct info, direct from the manuals.

I will check with the mto and see about the od reading. Last time this motorhome was put in someone’s name was 2009. So I would assume if it did roll over I should see that in the last od reading when registered. At very least there should be a difference of some kind.
