Maybe be an 82 but is not a 72. In 72 they were still using the round headlights.
Here is an example of an '82 Dodge Midas

Slim,
I can confirm that both of the above are right on. But call it a TravelArie/Dodge and while it may say "Sportsman" it is either a D300 or D350 chassis. The door tag will confirm that.
If you plan to do anything other than look at it, get two kinds of professional help. One would be an old crusty mechanic that knows how to deal with old stuff, and the other would an analyst to help you decide if this is something you really want in your life.
As the owner of now two ancient RVs, I can tell you that if you are going to have to hire the work it will need done, you can't afford it.

Dodge built the chassis , Sportsman was the cab trim package , and as mentioned by the 4 rectangular headlights 72 is not the year. Chassis serial number from the drivers door or left corner of the dash , visible through the windshield to confirm.
Travelaire is the RV manufacturer, and a search with Travelaire and the correct year will get you a lot of info.
JMHO: As stated this will be an expensive proposition to get road worthy , I'd be reluctant to start on it even if they were giving it away....and I worked at Dodge when the chassis was new.

The Dodge cutaway chassis, with the Sportsman trim package, that was supplied to the RV manufacturer would have been a version of the " B " series of van and had the designation of B 300.
" D " would be a two wheel drive pick up . " W " a 4X4

Well, from that one photo, it doesn't seem all that bad on the outside. What does the inside look like? Has it been sitting unused for a good length of time?

It’s not in bad shape at all. It has been siting for 3 years. It only had 3700kms on it. The frame and under side really good shape little to no rust on it at all
The inside needs a really good cleaning and update but all and all for it’s age it’s not bad. I’m going to be bringing it home this weekend so I’ll snap more pix then. I’ll be the second owner of this rv

From what I've dug up the quad headlights were used from 79>84 on the Dodge vans and appears to be part of the Sportsman trim package . As compared to the lower line Tradesman that still had 7" round headlights ; then in 85 they switched to two large rectangular sealed beams.
A 1972 Dodge van would have a metal grill and round headlights .
So make sure all the transfer paperwork is filled out correctly.
once you have the chassis serial number , look for a Dodge serial number decoder online .

So what I’ve found out.
It’s a 1979. ( so buddy told me the wrong year )
The door plate says it’s a dodge F40
This is what I found from running the vin
Model is MB400
Weight is 10001-14000lbs
Has a 440 V8
And was built in
Warren mi truck #3 (compact)
Here’s what I still need to know.
When I need parts for the front or rear end what numbers on that door plate will help me or what do I need to know to get parts ?

Travelaire was built in Red Deer Alberta.
Here is an article about them.
https://www.reddeeradvocate.com/busi...name-lives-on/
“In our heyday, we peaked out at close to $50 million in sales and our payroll was $7 million to $8 million,” he said, adding that as many as 270 people worked at the Red Deer plant.
Ultimately, Travelaire and Glendale fell victim to the rising loonie, which brought a flood of cheaper American-made RVs into the country. But Travelaire’s quality was never an issue, particularly when it came to the RV’s suitability for Western Canadian climatic and driving conditions."
I used to have a '80 22 foot Travelaire C-class on a Ford F250 Chassis with a 460.
You may have insulated tanks etc.
It looks like it is in nice shape. Dodge chassis with the 440 is nice! In one of the rear closets on the inside of the door is probably a build sheet.
