Looking at a couple older trek safaris. One is diesel one is gas. Has anyone had experience with either? Want to pull a small a two horse trailer. Weight around 6,000 pounds full.

I'm pretty sure the TREK towing capacity is 5000lb. For specifics see Login

I too would suggest looking over at the Trek Tracks message board (link above reads as login for some reason). Though I don't know of any Treks that have a 6,000 pound towing capacity, those built before 2001 generally have a 4,500 pound towing capacity, and most after 2001 have a 5,000 pound capacity, but you should check that on an individual basis, as I think a couple of the 2003 models only have a 3,500 pound capacity.

I heard one guy towing a 10,000 lb trailer with a 2003 Trek, said no problems but he was a mechanic who did some modifications. But the Trek was never designed for that!
I would be looking at diesel pushers, and even some of those have a 5,000 lb limit.

My 1999 TREK brochure shows "5000 lb. tow hitch" for both gas & Diesel engines and 24' & 28' lengths. However, if you plan on towing a substantial weight trailer, the 6.5 Diesel will be working pretty hard. Ask me how I know.
