Slide topper awning repair

1997 Southwind 32V. The white slide topper awning on my rig has one 4 to 5 inch tear on each end where it attaches to the coach. The awning is in good shape except for these tears. What have you used to repair these tears? I would like to use some sort of tough tape ( white preferably ) to tape these tears. Thanks all.

I would take the awning down and have a new edge seam made the entire length of the awning. If it is as close to the edge as you said, you would be loosing very little material and would have no effect on the operation of the awning.
