Tachometer stopped working

My electric tach stopped working after I hooked up my new electric cruise control. Nothing is connected to the tack, but the cruise is connected to the coil that comes out of the electronic ignition. It has often been a little jerky but never stopped. It did not stop instantly but jerked around and was slow for a while.
Yes I did disconnect the wire from the electronic ignition, no change.
