This deal ended up not being done. I went back two days later when the weather cleared. I could then see the outside bins, wheel wells, more exterior. Three of the exterior bin doors were rotted on the inside. Rear tires had dry rot cracking. Not enough gas in gas tank to start the generator. I then saw the RV had NOT been driven last summer because the tags expired in 2010.
Since it had been sitting with very little gas in the tank and not driven, not turned over on a regular basis I decided to back away from the deal.
I saw two days after that, he had pulled deleted the CL ad.

It doesn't matter who built the MH, it's a P32 Chevy (workhorse) chassie. As long as the gear ratio is the same, it doesn't matter what the replacement rear end was under and it doesn't even have to be the same year model or even a MH. I think that if you ask the mechanic, it's going to be cheaper to replace the whole rear end. I've been through this before with a 3/4 ton suburban. Look at the possibilities since Chevy P32's are probably the most used frame after the P30.

Does it matter what type of brakes? I remember reading about 2 different types of parking brakes on these chassis. Either in the drive shaft or in the brake shoes??

Figure out what the axle is? Could be Chevy, Dana, or Rockwell I think. There's plenty of axles out there...

It's a Dana 80 with 5.13. 11" ring and mor ryde. Not sure if the mor ryde is a bolt on or if I need to find one with it already attached.
The vin tells me it's a P37 1-ton. Now it's time to start searching.

Talk some sense into me
Super excited about tomorrow. Driving up to Chicago after work. Seeing it for the first time (2am). Going to crash in it for the night and head home in the morning. Hoping it goes without any issues.
Joliet Suspension was great to deal with. They only charged me $800 for:
Investigate the issue
Research replacement parts (not successfully)
Swap the axle
Swap the brakes since they were newer than the one on replacement axle
New fluids
Test drove it afterwards and will do one more drive tomorrow to ensure the battery didn't die (died last first time it was towed).
