Good Evening, Popeye, you describe the workcamping well. the fact that you grew up around the water is the way you have "popeye" for a handle? The surgeon that I have likes to check two weeks, one month, three months, I believe he will check it one more time between the three months and one year. Then he cks it every year after that forever. The type of joint that I have has a disk that can be replaced relativity easily if it wears out, that's why he cks it every year, if it goes too far then the whole knee needs replacing. I have about 3 to 4 weeks of PT to go if we ( the pt and I) think I need it. Hope I've explained it.

Terry - Great news about the knee.

Popeye - Got some friends I have to go see in Vermont, a stop to see Terry (I have to see that TH with my own eyes) in NY and a stop at Factory Five in Boston so you can count on it. Not going to be that close and not drop in for a spell.

Gordon - Have seen you post Janet is progressing. Great news!! My turn next winter. Patty says I will be a big baby about it and Janet will make me look like a wuss. Probably right. Women bear children, they manage pain much better than we do.

Terry,
Great to know that we will be that close, will keep you posted on when we get there.
Gordon,
So happy that Janet is healing rapidly and that the pain is diminishing.
Jay,
When are you going to stop and see Terry? If it is the first part of August, that would be about when we will be up that way.
Frank

Hello All,

Terry, Glad the knee is doing better and now it is just a matter of time. I wish all patient's understood the importance of pushing in PT to get better. The ones that do, do so much better.

I am supposed to get a knee injection in June to see if it will help with my knee pain. I am thinking about not getting it because once given I have to wait 6 months before I can have the replacement. The way the knee feels, I am not sure I will be able to wait until January like I planned. SO, thinking the injection is not a good idea at this point.

Popeye, Glad the workcamping job came through. That is something I am interested in doing when I retire as I want to keep busy and why pay for a lot if you don't have to.

Glad everyone else seems to be doing good. Take care, Lynne

Good Morning All, Getting up to nice sunshine little chilly but won't complain, might get to 70* today. Jay, we are around 70 miles from Bennington, VT. we ride to a little diner there called Papa Petes, great food and they like bikers. We made their photo wall and on their Facebook page, (papa petes of bennington, vt.) you would have to go back to 2011 and look for 7 old bikers at a table. Jay/Frank that would be great if we could get together. Have a great day all.

Hi Lynne, why wait until June for the injection? seems as though now would be better. I see people at PT wasting the appointment by complaining instead of doing, oh well they have to live with it. take care catch you later.

Lynne - either decision you make will be right for you. I would tend to go with an earlier date if your doctor will agree with you. If the injection will only delay the inevitable there would be little incentive for me to wait.

Jay - Janet's progress was not quite as quick as most of the folks we have talked to about the surgery. Janet had some joint pain for about the first week. Much like having a tooth ache in a tooth that has been extracted. One of our friends was traveling in two weeks and on his Ultra Classic in three weeks. Now two weeks after surgery Janet is much happier.

IMO it is really important to keep the affected joint as mobile as you can before the surgery. Janet's had atrophied and she had very little movement in it when we did the pre-op. The PT was not able to record any movement in the joint. I think that contributed to the post op pain.

Gordon, you are so right about having movement before surgery, I had done as much PT here at home as I could to try and keep it fluid, they had me measured at 109* of bend before surgery, right now I'm at 103* so almost back to what I was before, MY GOAL is 120* and won't be happy until I am there. I am sure Janet will be sooo much happier now when its all over, alot that I have heard and experienced myself is after a year you won't even think about it and its as good as it gets.

Popeye, If there's a no motorcycle rule you won't find me there . I have heard of some campgrounds that ban them. Sounds like you have a handle on the workcamping biz. Hope you had the weather we had today up there it was 70* and all sun, windy but after all the cold we will take it. Have a great night.

Lynne and Terry,
How right you are about following PT, I worked my fingers and would bend my wrist back and forth until the sweat would break out on my forehead because of the pain. Doc told me to move my fingers all that I could, I had a soft cast and could take it off to work the wrist, followed what he told me to do . When I got to PT, I was already a week or 2 ahead of where most people are when they start.

Frank, that's so true, with PT you get out what you put in for sure. I worked most of the day with some stops to just let things rest, but I'm feeling better about getting back into it. Today we just cleaned and organized, set up my area outside the TH with my saws and benches under a pop up canopy, getting ready. Next week is supposed to be cold and rainy and another round of doctor appointments and PT after that its pretty clear sailing . Have a great night all.

Thanks Terry - I will pass it on to Janet. She has good times and some not so good. She keeps expecting it to get better all the time. The ocasional aches and pain frustrate her. But she keeps getting better each day.

We are going to the motorcycle club meeting tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Matter of interest one of the fellows at the club who we have done a number of motorcycle tours with had a double lung transplant about 7 months ago. He is getting better. He had very little hope before the transplant so he sold his Gold Wing. He is feeling good enough that he recently purchased a 650 Burgman. He will not travel with us this summer but I expect he will next year.

Little bit more reflection. Another of the fellows has had a hip and both shoulders done. He is the fellow who was riding his Ultra about 3 weeks after his hip replacement. Six months later he had one shoulder done and the other a year after that. He is now waiting for his second hip.

Terry,
Glad to see that you are setting up to get back at it, I know that feels good. Now you just have to remember to take a few rest stops along the day.
