Good Afternoon, Tim, I could have an enclosed trailer, I have a 10,000 lb. tow capacity, 1000 lb. tongue wt. If I want an enclosed trailer to haul what I want, it would need to be 28' long, that puts us close or over length. plus the weight to haul, this rig will haul both bikes and the S10 toad PU at half the weight = better fuel economically, and the same results, all the vehicles at the campsite. We need to install a new deck and a splash shield in the front, and basically build it the way we want to use it I don't see a problem building a hard cover to go over the deck area. Ron, did I ever tell you I dislike boats and water, . two things you won't see me in .

Terry,
Dolly looks good, you are another step closer to being ready to go, plus you don't have a big project to get done before you leave for Cluster.

Terry, I knew you did not go out on the kayak in Kentucky. But neither did I. Did not know about your dislike of the wet stuff.

How do you tow the S10 on a dolly? Driveshaft disconnect?

Terry, when I was working on my friends, I thought about lengthening the frame about 24", and then enclosing the front bike carrier section. With ramp entries on both sides. This would allow staggering the bikes (one facing each direction) and not have handle bar collisions. On top of all that, it shields the toad from RV road debri. His already had a aluminuim diamond plate floor sealing that.

When we tow our big trailer with the coach, we never find a bug on the front of it. just slips along in the vacume created by Ms Prissy.

Good Morning, Lloyd, this one is a 2004 model, not sure if it came with a floor or not, but I figured to install one and the front. Right now it's designed to drive on and drive off, but I'll use bike chocks to lock the front wheel. The platform area I think is big enough to stagger the bikes like you mentioned, might be a good idea. Ron, they discontinued the driveshaft disconnect for the S10, I'm sure I could find one, I think I'll just unhook the driveshaft it would only take a minute to do once it's been taken out and prepared to do so.

This is one of the more common disconnects.
https://www.remcodsc.com/coupling/
It is a little pricey and if you can get buy with just doing a manual disconnect you may be ahead of the game.

Although it doesn't solve the issue of how to bring a bike and a car at the same time I converted my towed's rear axle to a full floater with dial out manual hubs.
Then I built a 3 receiver hitch and a self lifting bike rail to carry the bike on the back of the coach.
Google "Red Ant Motorcycle Carrier"

I can still flat tow my towed and take my bike with me. All well under max length.

HEY Rail, MY air horns work,
Terry, I am confused, why if the S-10 is flat towable would you have to disconnect the driveshaft, if it is on the dolly or not? Rail!

Good Morning, Rail, the problem is, it's not supposed to be towed 4 down, the person I got it from assumed as I did that because it's a standard trany that it can be......but it can't. From what I understand Chevy changed the design on the upper shaft, and it no longer has a gear that dips into the fluid to lube the bearings. The short distance I towed is okay.

Interesting, I have a 2003 VW Jetta with a standard transmission. Not sure if I will tow or haul on a trailer. Any body know if this car can be towed with the wheels on the ground?

As long as your 2003 VW Jetta is a 5sp you should be fine. Apparently the 6sp models pose a problem. Unknown if you have the owners manual for your car as that is where this information is found.

Happy Towing!
