Touch-Up Paint

Anyone have a lead on Touch-Up Paint for an 1989 Terry Resort?

Hoping for RV specific info, not Automotive.

Thank you,

Rich

Have you tried calling Fleetwood with your VIN#?

when we acquired the 5er a couple of years, ago, I wanted to get a wiring diagram from Fleetwood so I called them. They told me that they no longer sell or support Fifth-wheels or Travel Trailers. Just Motohomes.

They had no referral information, so now its a guessing game to figure what colors match my 5er.

If there is a panel or trim piece that you can remove, take it to the paint store. Many paint dealers can scan it and produce an accurate color match. For aged paint this will usually be a better match than the original paint codes will provide.

The smallest trim piece is next to the door. I'd imagine to remove that piece, I would compromise the butyl tape seal under the door; or, I imagine I'd have to remove the door to get to that panel. IDK

The next smallest piece goes horizontal beneath both the taillights. I'd have to pull that panel and take it in.

The damaged paint is just around the taillights, so, I might just try trial and error purchases, purchasing touch-up paint from the automotive stores.

Thanks for chiming in Marc and Jill,

Rich

Paint

On my 2001 Coachmen, the original paint was automotive.

Yes, I'd imagine automotive paint is used on RVs, but, the reason I asked for RV specific lead info, is because automotive builders might not have the specific color scheme info that RV builders would.

We have a top end auto body shop close to the S&B's and I have taken 2 autos to them to make the paint (Touchup), Guy comes out and uses a machine to look into the paint and then goes in and makes the paint. It comes out a perfect match.
Just a idea,
Tim

Thanks for that idea, Tim.

I'll check with some auto body shops around here about that.

Hey Rich, Your welcome and I hope you find one. The tool, instrument or what ever they call it, is like a old view master if you remember those they will set it on the car or MH and it will give the guy the mixture too get the color correct.
Charges ? not sure we had work done there and there was NC for the bottles. The last bottle was for the color on my 64 caddie and it came out Perrrrfect. I have the colors listed on a list from Fleetwood located on the cupboard door under the kitchen sink. Look around your MH and you might find it somewhere.
Happy hunting,
Tim

RV companies are notorious for not providing their original owners with color codes. And RV body shops have to have really good painters to match colors on virtually every coach/trailer that hits their shops. It's especially difficult on motor homes and fifth wheel trailers with multi color full body paint.

One thing that compounds their paint matching problems is the use of fiberglass panels that had the original color molded in. When any patching is made, they use Bondo equivalent products without any color. They have to perfectly match the color--and also match the texture to the rest of the unit. Some have to take wadded up Saran Wrap and dot around the wet paint to get the look they want.
