Trailer has Butane Appliances Can I Use Propane?

Hi, we have purchased a 1973 10' Field and Stream Travel Trailer. It has a butane light and a 5 gallon butane tank. Where do you purchase butane in that volume and can we use propane?

Wow, I thought butane had to be stored underground to keep it liquidized. I'm sure you could call your local propane dealer and they could advise you on this.

I'm not sure Butane is even commonly available any more - sure isn't anywhere in my area...

Conversion to Propane is no big deal - just a few jetting changes usually...

As far as RV's go, butane and propane are equivalent. Many times the bottled gas you buy will be a mix of the two. Butane has a slightly higher heat content but doesn't work so well in colder weather for vapor based systems like RV's use.

You only need to change burner orifices when you go to methane or natural gas as commonly used in home systems attached to utility gas lines.

Butane and Propane can be used interchangeably with RV systems, in Mexico and south you fill there with butane vs propane. Butane was phased out of regular use as it stops producing gas at a higher temp (Cold-wise) than propane, as explained above.

Simply fill the bottle a propane filling station and you're good to go.
