Registration expired in 2003. I still have the old plates. Think these could speed things along?

Ask DMV for the state the plates were registered to. Does not hurt to ask.

Also find out what the Title Recovery cost is via:

Auto Title Recovery - Recover lost automobile titles without hassle. (For Texas residents) or

Recover Lost Vehicle Title - TitleRecovery.com or

National Motor Vehicle Title Information System: For Consumers

Why of course. I have to ask how did you come to own this vehicle without getting a title??
Whom did you buy it from?? what do they have to say about htis situation.?

If the last leagal owner is the one that died then whoever inherited it will probibly have to do the paperwork to get you a title.
At least where I am from(Ohio) I think that what has to be done.

I have a bill of sale. Problem is that the person who sold it hadn't ever gotten the title himself. He did give me a old registration receipt, In Tx you can or could register a vehicle in a different name from the one on the title. But I have a good lead now on the current title holder so I'll know more tomorrow.

$35 and CARFAX will get you the ownership registration history.

https://secure.carfax.com/creditCard...SiteLocation=0

They have a free peek that will give you some insight.

My winnebago vin sticker at driver's door is very clear. It is not the same VIN as seen on old registration. WHERE did you find the chassis VIN? DMV and DOT want as much info as possible to register my 40 year old RV (estate sale/orig owners deceased)

In 72, they could have used the Dodge chassis VIN (13 digit) or the Winnebago S/N (See page 2 of http://www.winnebagoind.com/resource..._Motorhome.pdf). Unfortunantly thiere was no US wide standardization in 72 (17 digit standard was not implemented untill 1982).

Dodge VIN would have looked simular to: M39CG2S551818. There would have been a Dodge (or Fargo) VIN plate (Vin Number Information dodgetravcos.com - Long Lasting Dodges) attached to the wall by the drivers seat or in the radiator access area (later years). As indicated in that link, Dodge also stamped it into the front right frame rail.

VIN identification

  • Hmm, we haven't received any information on this car since May 2002. Before you buy, ask the seller for recent service or repair records.
  • I'm here to help! Print and bring my SmartBuyer Checklist when you go to test drive this 1983 Chevrolet P30.

Print this CARFAX Report and take it to your pre-purchase inspection
Tell us what you know about this vehicle

The first two characters say it was made in the USA by General Motors.. Others have been more specific as to models and such... GM will have a record of the dealer or motor home manufacturer it was originally shipped to, the motor home maker will have a record of the original sale.

I know (Because I've done it) that the POLICE can check a VIN for a title in several (All if you give them enough time) states, however they need a valid reason for doing so and alas. Your request does not qualify.

Your friendly INSURANCE agent may be, and I stress the qualifier MAY, be able to do likewise. Though it may be via other services than the ones I used in my Dispatcher days.

Don't know what state you are in, I saw Texas mentioned, If you can get a mechanics lien or maybe a bonded title. I know that they can do that here in Arizona.
