A complete chassis V.I.N. should be 17 digets. There may also be a serial number for the coach itself. Hope this helps

VIN searches only work with 17 digits, a system for the older 13 digit does not exist.

M39CG2S551818 is a standard VIN ID for a 70's era Dodge Motorhome chassis.

M3 = M300 chassis
9 = Forward Control&Motor Home Chassis, Incomplete chassis, CB300 Kary Van, Sport Utility
C = 10,001 lbs to 14,000 lbs
G = 318-3engine
2 = 1972
S = Warren Truck #1 assembly plant
551818 = Sequential serial number

The 17 digit standard was not mandated until 1982.

I beg to differ. Some sites have been compiling information on them for a while now, and some offer a fairly decent Vin search for 13 digits.

Here is one I found that works:

VINwiz Decoder

I see the M300 chassis. I did a parts search and when I chose the M300 chassis, the earliest year it allowed me to select was 1974. When I searched under M375, it allowed me to choose 1972. Does this mean most likely it's an M375 chassis?

Sorry but no. A M375, also reffered to as M400 on a few sites, would have the code M4. When looking for parts do not confuse M300 with MB300. MB300 is the class C van chassis. Not sure where you were looking but NAPA lists the M300 (under Dodge Truck) for 1972. Places like Autozone and Advance Auto normally do not have a computer listing for the M300. The best approach is to get yourself a copy of the 69-79 Dodge Motorhome chassis Parts Book. Look up the Dodge P/N you want then use the Auto parts cross reference feature. You will have much more success that way. You also will want to purchase the 69 - 73 Dodge Motorhome Service Manual. Those to manuals cover everything for the chassis. They do not cover the house portion. They are available in both paper and digital form on ebay. You can also get them in the store at Classic Winnebagos & Vintage RVs!

Just to clarify my statement I was referring to looking it up in the LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) system. Of course any VIN can be Googled or otherwise searched.

My apologize if my statement was misleading.

John is LEIN strictly for LEO's?
I've spent some money looking for the last registered title holder on my winnebago. Carfax gave me a registered owner but when I contacted them they had went with the buyer to have the title changed and I've had no luck in finding/locating them.
