Vogue 1979
Hello dear members, I live in Mexico City, last week I brought a Vogue Class A, 33ft, 1979 with Dodge 440 engine, next tuesday I will go to California to receive this Motorhome, seller says the engine is in good condition and runs very well. Someone have an opinion for is this engine? Is easy to find parts for this engine? How is the cons for this engine?

The 440 has always been a great engine and very capable in a MH. Parts are no problem. My only concern is mileage, it being over 30 years old.
I would not be concerned if it was the original engine and had 50-60k miles. I would be more concerned with belts, hoses, alternator, steering pump and other equipment attached to the engine, especially if original.

Looks in beautiful shape, they built them good in those days. Being that old it's a breeze to work on that engine/trans/driveline. Enjoy your new purchase and be sure top post lots of pics! SNO

440-3 is a good engine. Your biggest concern might be ensuring you have good quality gas. With 5 bolt rims (19.5" tires), you have one of the larger M500 chassis. Makes a big difference for brake parts.

That is a good powerful engine, but it does NOT like to pass gas stations...

Dear Friend, This Vogue have 54k miles, do you know if I can find this belts, hoses, alternator, steering pump in a commercial stores like AutoZone, CarQuest, etc?

Back in the day when I was working on these, they were pretty famous for cracking the RH exhaust manifold. They weren't available then (for reasons unknown), so people were going to headers. Some of these conversions were very well done. Others not so much. Point being, I would be very careful of an engine that wasn't dead quiet. If there's an exhaust leak, even if it stops when the engine warms up, I would approach it knowing repairs might get expensive.
Other than that, these were great coaches - but may be a little on the heavy side?

Before you try to take it on the road, you need to check the tires, max of 5 years old (By date code), change to oil and filter, service transmission, check all belts and hoses, service the generator, check all brakes and repack wheel bearings.
The old Vogues were great old machines. As mentioned, the 440 engine is a strong engine, but it is rather thirsty.

I am very sad, the seller is not a good person, he is not honestly, this vogue have engine problems, I go back to Mexico, then I will wait the phone call to go back to California and check it again. I hope he fix all problems that I reported him

Sorry to hear that. Were these major problems? Do you really trust him to fix these problems properly? I'm thinking if he wasn't honest the first time, we won't be the next time either.

What do you think? The seller tells me: He donīt back my money. I think he only fix the carburetors and thats all. I live in Mexico and I sped a lot of money with the travel, the question is: What can do if you are in my situation?
