What have I done?! :)

My wife and I got back from a (RVless) Route 66 trip and got the bug to find a camper to pull. She found an 18' single axle something, and I'm still trying to identify just what we've acquired. We got it home OK, still needs lots of love, but before I dig in and start yanking cabinets and pulling wire, I would REALLY like to figure out just what we have. I've got a good chunk of the tongue sanded off and still haven't found the VIN. My best clue so far is a big plastic badge on the back that reads 'Brentwood Inc. Continental' .

Google searches on that have pointed to to a pic of a camper that looks a lot like ours, but no other info except possibly a year - 1969.

Any resources you folks could point me to would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Congratulation on your venture into RVing!!!

It appears that you've picked on one-hell-of-a protect to begin with.

Didn't it come with a title that says what it is?
Or don't you plan on registering it, for pulling it on a highway?

I don't know what exactly you're looking for, but here's a possible starting place for you. My google images search said it's a 1969 Brentwood Continental and looks like yours. Good Luck and have some fun with it.

Yes, we found that image, too! That's part of what leads us to believe its a 1969. Further searches on Brentwood Continental have not been very successful. Did Brentwood go out of business? Were they popular or obscure? Anyone have other resources to learn more about their product?

I can't find anything more on it either ... very strange. The only other lead I've found, is that Kenskill made some TT's that look a whole lot like yours. Maybe some connection? Unfortunately, Kenskill is no longer in business so they can't be contacted.

I agree with bap ... just enjoy and maybe someday you'll get the rest of the story.

Check with these folks:

www.tincantourists.com

think carefully about how much you rip out. You have a classic that you might want to maintain as a classic! If you just have to do something fix the brakes and replace the tires. Then start plotting a nice resoration. By 1969 the industry was using decent wire insulation so the wiring is fine unless it's aluminum. I'd mostly just clean and polish unless there are real problems to fix.

Bobby Dutton started Brentwood Inc with 2 other men in 1969 and built travel trailers under the name Continental. He later changed the name to Continental Trailers. Here is a link to the book. Starting in chapter 13 he talks about the trailer business.

Welcome to the forum. Band Debbie do a lot of these older TT's over. I think you've got a beauty there. If you didn't get a title then it might be touchy finding out exactly what it is. Good luck, Lynne
